Pregnancy week 31-Moms, you may be uncomfortable

Pregnant ladies, as you enter the later parts to the first half of your last trimester you’ve certainly noticed a couple of things.  Dads, you’ve probably noticed these things too, but sometimes it’s best not to mention them to your spouse, they’re a little on edge now.  But not you honey, you’re as normal as you ever were.

Spacey/Absent minded

I casually mentioned to my wife the other day that she was a little spacey at times.  The other night she asked me directly if she was spacey at times and I said yes.  One would’ve thought that my telling her that she was spacey would’ve affirmed the fact that she was spacey.  However, the fact that she asked me if she’s spacey, after I told her so, confirms that fact.

Then tonight in the kitchen I said, “Hey sweetie, do you want some water with dinner”?  She looked at me, was silent for 20 seconds and said “Water”, and then she was silent again.  During these periods of silence I closed the refrigerator door and started to walk out of the kitchen with my dinner.  As I was leaving she said, “Sure I’d love some water”.

It was the classic Chevy Chase bit where his microphone kept going out, except my wife wasn’t speaking into a microphone.  Thankfully she realized that her mental lapse was very funny and started laughing.  Her laughter was continuous and as far as I know she was laughing about the same thing.

Can’t breathe

At 31 weeks of pregnancy your little person is as big as a squash.  A squash is a small pumpkin, as well as a court sport that’s similar to tennis, but with less testosterone.  In this case, it’s a small pumpkin and your baby is jamming up against your lungs, which makes it really tough to breathe.

If you’re having trouble breathing it’s not a guarantee that you’re pregnant, maybe you live in a high altitude area or a really humid place.  If you’re not sure if you’re pregnant, then you could live where it’s humid or are just out of shape.  However, if you’re belly is big and you had intercourse about six months ago you may want to see your OBGYN ASAP.  Ignore the above advice if you’re a guy and having trouble breathing.  If that’s the case then you’re just out of shape, live in the hills or need to see a doctor about a different matter all together.

Can’t sleep

Moms, no amount of quips or droll humor can’t get you past this.  Sleeping at this stage of your pregnancy is tough.  You’re body hurts; you can’t move in bed and are locked into one position of pseudo sleep for a couple of hours a night.  Thankfully all of your tossing and turning at night will also keep your spouse awake.

If your spouse is a deep sleeper then you can thrash about more than usual to wake them up or at least disturb their sleep.  Even the sacred body pillow can’t help your sleep ways.  If the testosterone set could help you with your sleepless quagmire we would, but right now we’re off to take a nap.
