WaterPik SinuSense goes mano a mano with my spring allergies

My allergies in the spring are cruel. My nose weighs 20 pounds, I sound like a fool when I talk and nobody can understand me. They start out as allergies and end up as a sinus infection. It’s a dance that my nasal cavities and I have done the past four years. When offered the chance to review SinuSense from WaterPik I jumped like a bunny.
If there were other natural cures for spring allergies I would’ve tried them, but I live in Atlanta. The pollen count in Atlanta is stunning, recently it was over 8,000. To folks who don’t live in Atlanta this means that your nose is pounding, throat is aching and anything not moving is yellow.

When I first opened the SinuSense by Waterpik I was struck by its craftsmanship and simplicity. Then I looked at the back of the packaging and I was scared.

A combination of scared and funny actually because the illustration made me and my wife laugh hysterically. It doesn’t look natural having water flush out your nasal cavity. OK, it isn’t natural, but with spring, come the spring allergies which clog up my nasal cavities. Water is a natural cure and my allergies are painful and eventually become infected.

But the SinuSense sat in the office for a couple of days because I didn’t want water flushing out my nose. I was scared, and the pain of my thick nose and pending infection was better than what I thought the experience would be.
When the pollen count got really high I finally tried the SinuSense-and I liked it. “Liked” may be a stretch initially, but it worked quickly and immediately relieved the pressure in my nose.
I put one of the solution packages in the water area, added water, put it in the microwave for 10 seconds, connected the two pieces and started it. The first sensation is weird and unnatural having warm water stream up your nose. It was so weird I turned the machine off and regrouped.
I tried the other nostril and then turned the machine off again.

I tried the first nostril again, but this time realized that I can breathe through my mouth. It flushed through just like a third grader drinking milk that starts to laugh really hard.

A couple of days using the SinuSense and it got easier each time with my allergies getting better too. I’m past the point where I normally get a nasal infection, my nose doesn’t hurt and my speech is clear! The image of water going in one nostril and out the other isn’t natural, but the machine forces the water through; all you have to do is relax and breathe through your mouth.

It’s also a bit messy, but just use the machine over a sink and you’ll be fine. Have a towel close by because your nose will be wet and you’ll need something to wipe your nose on when you’re finished. Having said all that, the SinuSense really helps manage the pain and discomfort that spring allergies can bring. If you have allergies it’s worth trying and not nearly as bad as you may think it is.

  1. Hey aren’t these the things we got at Blogher?  I haven’t tried mine but after reading your review, now I’m gonna try it.  I have horrendous allergies and with all this pollen flying around,  I gotta do something.  I hate taking the pills… LOL

    1.  Yup, that’s the same one.  I never tried mine….until this post.  The picture is effective, but the relief that it provides is worth it.
