Test driving the new BMW Maclaren Buggy

An umbrella stroller is so called that because it can fold up neatly and be put away in your car without much fuss.   Perhaps yours is difficult to fold, frustrating to push or seemingly has a mind on its own with a desire to pinch your fingers.  With that as my baseline experience with those types of strollers I am reviewing the new BMW Maclaren Buggy.

I’ll be doing a post or two about the functionality of the BMW Maclaren Buggy.  My initial thoughts on the BMW Maclaren Buggy are very positive, but I’ll give it a good month to run through the day in/day out routine of shopping, exercise and storage.

Pushing

Pushing the BMW Maclaren Buggy is easy.  Some umbrella buggies that I’ve pushed are clunky and their front wheels get jammed up simply turning in a parking lot.  We’ve taken the BMW Maclaren Buggy on a couple different terrains including wooded, rocky and normal use.  So far it’s been simple to push on all of the surfaces, but we’ll increase the challenges and see how it does.

Folding

Folding a buggy should not be in the same skill set as solving a Rubik’s Cube.  It’s ridiculously easy to fold the BMW Maclaren Buggy.  All we do is push up on two different hinges, push the handles into each other and bring the wheels up.   It also has storage space behind the passenger for you to put bags or go shopping.

Turning

This is almost in the same category as ‘pushing’.  I decided to make it a separate category because turning radius on the BMW Maclaren Buggy is tight and can turn on a dime.  Yes, I know that sounds like a car term, but it’s the best way to describe it. With our old umbrella stroller I had to plan ahead to turn.  If I turned too quickly the wheels would jam up parallel to the buggy and stop all forward movement.  The BMW Maclaren Buggy’s front wheels move like a ballet dancer, whether you’re going straight or zig zagging to make your baby laugh.

Removing the passenger

There is one central button in the front of the buggy.  On each side there is a shoulder and lap belt that are connected to each other.  Simply connect that into the middle and you’re precious cargo is styling and safe.  To remove them from the buggy just press the button firmly in the middle and take them out.  Easy, peasy.

Again, removing your child from the buggy should not be an exercise to your patience.

We’ll take the BMW Maclaren Buggy all around the area, the city, off road, sunny, cloudy, wet and dry.  If you have any suggestions on what I can do to really try out a stroller we’d love to hear them.  In the mean time More Mojo will continue to evaluate things.  You can also dig MacClaren on Facebook.
