Naptime DIY: Install the Kohler Touchless Toilet Flush Kit

We received product for review purposes.  Unless we have a toy dolphin in the toilet when we flush, then we received product for review porpoises.    All thoughts are our own.  The Kohler Touchless Toilet Flush Kit can turn any toilet into a touchless one.   In our marriage my wife is the clean one.  Me, I’m the one who cleaned the house with a leaf blower and lived in a house while renovating it.  However, now that I’m married the clean lifestyle is the one for me, so I’m told.  The Kohler Touchless Toilet Flush Kit eliminates the need to touch the toilet when you flush it.  But is it really that simple to install?

Installing the Kohler Touchless Toilet Kit-Naptime DIY

It comes in a simple package and doesn’t require many tools.  The only tools that I needed were a pair of pliers, needle nose pliers and an adjustable wrench.

Because the Touchless Toilet Flush Kit is a new idea for me I laid out the instructions and actually read them before starting the project.  It’s not every day that you’re taking away something that is in every house and replacing it with motion control.  Pretty cool.

We followed the instructions that Kohler provided and they worked like a charm.  The condensed directions are:

  • Remove the handle and chain from the basin.
  • Remove the chain from the flapper
  • Plug the hole in the basin where the old handle went with the provided bolt.
  • Place the bumpers on the top of the basin where it contacts the lid.
  • Slide the kit with the device inside the toilet, supported by hooks on the basin.
  • Measure, connect and if necessary cut the chain connecting the flapper to the device.
  • Put the lid back on
  • Wave your hand over the spot where the device is located and watch your toilet flush.
  • Go back to the living room and watch Logan’s Run.

That last step is totally optional.  You can substitute any show, movie or cat video that suits your fancy.

We also cleaned the flapper with bleach and wiped down the inside of the toilet basin.   In total this DIY took 15 minutes from unpacking to cleaning up the tools.  It was very simple and anyone can do it.

My wife loves the fact that we don’t have to touch the toilet to flush it.  “I touch enough crap in the day changing diapers.  The fewer germs I come into contact with the better” she said.  Happy wife, happy life.

Our oldest child loves it because the first time I did it for him he thought it was magic, possibly because I told him I was going to do a trick.  Now he wants to flush it just for the sake of doing magic himself.

Kohler Touchless Toilet Kit

It is a very cool product that makes a statement.  Not having a traditional toilet handle will freak some people out, confuse some and impress the others.  If you’re renovating your bathrooms then touchless toilets can be purchased for hundreds of dollars.  The Kohler Touchless Toilet Flush Kit can convert most toilets to touchless for $100.

The kit comes with a sticker to place on the lid where you need to wave your hand in order for it to flush.  It’s the next best thing to saying “Jumanji” and having your toilet flush.  But until the voice activated toilets this will do just fine.
