The Guardians of the Galaxy Milano Starship review

By now you know that we’re fans of Guardians of the Galaxy.  We’re not purist fans that are true to the characters that originated back in the day.  We’ve been following them since issue #1 of the re-boot comic- not that I’m pretending to be a purist or uber fan by pointing that out or anything.  We were sent the Guardians of the Galaxy Milano Spaceship to play with, possibly review and imagine ourselves as Star-Lord, Rocket or Groot.

Guardians of the Galaxy Milano Starship

The Milano Starship requires no tools to put together and an adult can put the ship together in 5 minutes.  As a child we were never one to put the stickers and decals on our model ships.   However, if you go the extra mile then you can put the decals on your Milano Starship in about 10 minutes.

At the worst case, you’re 15 minutes from box to toy play and you’re done.  The batteries are included in the Milano so you’ll be good to go on firing it up from the moment it’s out of the box.  The sound and light effects are pretty cool on the front end of the toy, eliciting a pause and ‘whoah’ from our son.

After his Keanu Reeves moment he proceeded to pick up the Milano and pilot her all over the living room.  His slightly clumsy (or overenthusiastic) four year old hands caused the bottom wings of the three sub-wings to fall off.  After realizing this and trying to put them on by himself he flagged up for help.

The box on the Milano Starship says that it’s for ages 4 and up.  Our 4 year old loves playing with it, but often drops it or snags the lower wings.  The upside to them popping off easily is that they go on just as easily.  Our 4 year old could put them on, but just not as fast as he would like.  A 5 year old can play with this for hours and not as for parental involvement, whereas a 4 year old will ask for help putting the ship back together.

The canopy for the flight deck to the Milano also comes off easily, but is even simpler to put back on than the wings.   The Milano has two torpedoes that can be fired from the ship.  All you have to do to fire them is push them from the backside and they’ll fly out a bit towards their prey.

The Milano Starship comes with one action figure, Star-Lord, to pilot things safely.  You can also purchase a three-pack of alternate, scaled appropriately to fit into the canopy area of the ship.     Even Groot fits into the pilot area.  The button just past the canopy area is what triggers the audio and light effects.
