Fraggle Rock: Journey to the Everspring, all ages awesome

A couple of weeks ago we reviewed Jim Henson’s, The Storyteller Witches.  Recap, it’s a dreamy, fascinating, utterly entertaining all ages comic that girls will like more than boys.  Fraggle Rock: Journey to the Everspring is a four issue mini-series from Archaia Entertainmet that is Fraggle awesome with art that makes you smile and a story that makes you want to read it to your children.

Fraggle Rock Journey to the Everspring

For parents that grew up on the Fraggles the characters are still here.  The physical appearance of the large rounded noses, flowing hair and neon colors combined with the darker underground colors are here too.  The Fraggle attitude of hopeless optimism, curiousity, creativity and friendship are also throughout the comic.

In Journey to the Everspring we meet the cast of Fraggles as Gobo goes from Fraggle to Fraggle trying to help them.  When Gobo is talking to Red they realize that something has happened to the water supply.  As the issue ends we see the key group of five Fraggles head into the caves to see where the water went.

I am in love with the art in Fraggle Rock.  It’s soft, visual art that makes you feel that you could all but touch the felt that makes up their Fraggle body.  The art is also detailed and paints a great representation of where the Fraggles live.

Journey to the Everspring is also just weird enough for young readers to understand and follow, without losing them.  If a comic is too abstract or non-linear then children just won’t follow it.  In our case I think about our 5 year old who would love to have me read this to him.

In my mind’s eye I can see him following each panel as I read it.  When we reach the last page where they head off into the cave I suspect he’ll be full of questions and want to read the next issue now.  I do wish that Archaia Entertainment included a digital copy when you purchase the comic.  I am not a comic purist.  I don’t buy them because I think that they’ll be worth money in the future.

However, I am old school and like the feel of a comic in my hands.  However, I like to read them in digital format.  It’s highly possible that I’ll have to go new school and just get the digital copies.  The jury is still out on that though.

The greatness of Fraggle Rock has no questions.  Journey to the Everspring is a delight that you and any aged reader will enjoy.
