As a group or Han Solo, life’s better in costume with Buy Costumes #ad

This is a sponsored post.  All thoughts are our own.  We don’t normally do theme costumes as a family.  However this is the first year that our oldest has really expressed an interest and his younger brother is following suit.  Previously the eldest was lukewarm to dressing up, but loved looking like an animal.  It was at a parade last year where he realized that if he dressed up and looked the part, then people will give or in that case, throw more candy his way.

This year we built the family costume around his costume choice at Buy Costumes.

The Scarecrow's friends

“I want to be a lion”, he proudly stated.

A bright light went off in my head that we should all be lions and then carry around a boom box playing “Wait” by White Lion.  You can guess what we would’ve called our family costume.

In the end we opted for the more traditional (and logical) choice that included a lion, The Wizard of Oz.  While life is better in costume, it’s sometimes better if you’re doing a group costume that will immediately be known, especially if your audience will be children.

Costume tip:  Do not forget the accessories.  Our Scarecrow costume is cool, but the accessories, in our case the straw really make the costume work.

The Scarecrow

Our youngest will be the tin man.  I momentarily thought about mixing it up and being Dorothy with my wife taking over the duties of the Scarecrow.  However, I remembered my rule of keeping the audience appropriate to the costume and went with my wife being Dorothy.

Shopping for the costumes at Buy Costumes was simple.  As I located each costume I just added it to the shopping cart.  When I was finished I reviewed it all, hit submit and we were all but on our way down the Yellow Brick Road.

You need tips?  Well, you can take our White Lion idea and jam out to 80’s metal whilst trick or treating or you can visit the Ideas page that will undoubtedly create a more symbiotic vibe to your costume.  The top 10 at Buy Costumes is your key to that-with #OrangeTuesday you can shortlist what’s cool, relative to what you think is cool. We found an in-depth Wizard of Oz graphic that solidified how cool our group costume really is and turned us onto lots of great ideas for next year.   Hint: it’s not going to involve 80’s cheese metal, which does make me a little sad.

As a bonus, the folks at BuyCostumes are one of the largest internet sellers of costumes, so their supply is deep and the web site has hundreds of great ideas. They’re also supporting UNICEF by donating ten percent of the total purchase price on all orders  September 2 through October 31. Just use the code “TOT4UNICEF” to support Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF for up to $100,000 being donated to them.

Customers will also be able to make an additional donation when shopping the site also.  You can visit them online for all of the details. Donations collected in support of Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF help provide children with medicine, nutrition, clean water, emergency relief and education.

Recap:  Halloween is a couple weeks away now.  If you need ideas, want selection or just want to see what’s popular check out Buy Costumes to see if they who you want to be today.  Life is better in costume, try it and you’ll see.  Follow them on twitter or Instagram for more costume tips, tricks or ideas.
