Daddy Mojo’s toy and tech gift guide

To a parent, toys and tech can be the backbone of your existence.  With two boys we know action and vehicle toys quite well, hint: Star Wars.  As a DIY guy I know a little bit about tools and I’m learning more about tech.  Just like the music, book and movie gift guide, this one has choices that you might’ve missed and a couple that are off the beaten path.

Toys with mojo

Marvels’ Guardians of the Galaxy Big Blastin Rocket Raccoon Electronic Action Figure

This toy is a trip.  It’s a mix of action figure, doll and attitude.  Push the button on Rocket’s leg and he’ll fire the gun and talk kid friendly smack.  It’s not an action figure because of the hard plastic, but everyday he lines up and plays with figures much smaller than him.  This is a toy that we didn’t think our kids would like, but they end up playing with him multiple times a week.

Big Blastin Rocket Raccoon

Star Wars Hero Series X-Wing Fighter Vehicle

This is big.  You’ve seen an X-Wing fighter that is big before, but this is one that you can play with in various ways.  It comes assembled and is meant to be played with in the yard, play room  or whatnot as your child pretends to pilot it.  Don’t worry if they drop it because it won’t fall apart and losing pieces isn’t possible.

Star Wars X Fighter

Transformers: Age of Extinction Stomp & Chomp Grimlock Action Figure

For the big Transformer fan in your house this is a fit.  Appropriate for ages 5 and up this stomp and chomp Grimlock converts in one-step and has a non-converting Optimus Prime to go into battle with.  Grimlock has different sounds when he’s an Autobot or a Decepticon.

Star Wars Command Millennium Falcon Set

The only thing that could make army men better is if they were Star Wars Army men.  This is that.  Even cooler are the vehicles, like AT-AT, Millennium Falcon, Tie Fighters, X-Wings and more are in the fight too. The vehicles can be put on small pedestals that move-simply pull them back and let em go.  Ditto the Millennium Falcon, which goes into hyperspace or plows over stormtroopers on your dining room table.  And just look at the detail that these figures have, they’re not your dad’s Army  men, but dad might just come play with them.

Dart Zone Scorpion Gatlin Blaster

At only $20 this price from Wal Mart for a foam bullet firing gatlin gun can’t be beat.  It fires 20 bullets in 10 seconds 70 feet.  This could be the not-so secret weapon that your front yard battle needs to level the playing field.   You can only find this at Wal Mart.

John Deere Gear Force Combine

If you’ve got a child who is into the farm, this toy is for them.  It’s a big, action oriented toy that has a working combine and multiple buttons to activate the LED lights or things that farm workers might say.  I know that sounds like a Jeopardy category, but this toy has lots to do for kids that like big vehicles or the farm.

Laser Pegs

It’s one building block toy that can make  24 different toys.  Also, if you’re going to try Laser Pegs what better set is there to try than the one on space vehicles?   These toys are age appropriate to put together.  If your child can do other building block toys then they can do Laser Pegs.  In this case ages 6 and up can do it with minimal assistance, 5 and up with more help from the parents.   Make the 6 sea animals or do it free range and create something bigger and scarier, it’s up to you.

Tech with mojo

ChannelLock tools

The Christmas season we were giddy to partner with ChannelLock.  They’re having a great contest where people can win a dream garage.  The ChannelLock 2014 Gridiron Garage Giveaway is for a $2,000 ChannelLock tool kit, tool chest, 27” HDTV, Stainless steel 3-burner gas grill, mini fridge and 7,000 watt generator.  We’re also giving away a sampling of some ChannelLock tools.

Craftsman tools

Sears has some storming deals on select Craftsman tools.  Witness this 42 piece ¼ and 3/8-inch drive bit and Torx Bit Socket Wrench Set.  Its normal retail is $99, but through 12/24 it’s $29.00.  There are a couple other deals that are just as good too.

Sol Tracks Air Wireless Bluetooth Headphones

Wireless headphones with a 150 foot range and sound that is good enough for the world’s greatest DJ? The Sol Tracks Air Wireless Headphones can do the trick.  These headphones have a 100 day money back guarantee too. We’ll be giving a pair of them away in just a couple of days…now wait for the bass….wait for it…

Roku

We love our Roku.  It’s saved us hundreds of dollars since we purchased it.

A Chromebook

OK, this more crowd sourcing than an actual known gift idea.  Our laptop is about to cease its productive life and we’re thinking about a Chromebook.  My interpretation of it is that it’s like a laptop, but used for people that use the internet more than creating spreadsheet and the like.  If Chromebook users have any input on this I would appreciate it in the comments or to trey@daddymojo.net. The price point of $299 is right up our frugal alley, but I want to be certain folks are happy with it first.
