The state of Daddy Mojo and what to expect from us

First off, thanks for being here.  Like the classic song from Expose, Seasons Change, I wanted to loop you in on what to expect from Daddy Mojo. The site has evolved since our rambling travel stories and confused child questions when we weren’t sure how to change a diaper.  Now that our kids are older we’ll still write (and review) about baby products, parenting tips, poop culture and more.  However, a couple new categories have entered the fray that warrants some explanation.

Daddy Mojo

The reviews

Agh, not another review site is what you may be thinking.  Well, we will review products, but we’ll never, and I mean never just cut and paste a company’s press release and pass that off as a ‘post’.  If it’s a newsworthy announcement we’ll write our own version of it, but it won’t be boiler plate stuff you’ll see elsewhere.

The reviews are done by me and our kids.  They’re honest, have a touch of humor and will give you a real view of the toy, gadget, product or book.  They’ll be positive, negative or lukewarm, but they’ll be true.

Similar to comics (see below BatFans!) we’ll look at lots of great children’s books.  There are so many great children’s books that fly below the radar.  Some will be the one book that will make that one child happy, while others might be the next future classic or possibly just one that is average at best.   The really bad books we’ll skip, unless it’s one that somehow sneaks past our sniff test.

Giveaways

We do love a giveaway.  A.  It’s free and we’ve always liked free.  Because we’re doing more giveaways doesn’t mean that we’ll be giving away stuff that you wouldn’t want.  We get emails from strange products that even your strange cousin in the uni-bomber style shack in the woods wouldn’t want.  That stuff you won’t see here, unless it’s so weird that it makes us laugh.

Comics

I’m seeing lots of comics lately…I won’t need to speak Klingon or anything, will I?

wej ghaytan tlhIngan pagh vay’ Daq tIv pagh jatlh bImejnIS, you Muggle.  Ok, so we blended some Klingon and Harry Potter lingo in one sentence, but the answer is no.

In a Facebook group someone asked about the best current all age comic book. Bone and Team Titans GO! were the leading (see: only) responses.  They are good comics, but one isn’t new and one is the go-to comic when someone says “all age comic please”.  I knew that there were so many other great all age comics that are released every single week.  Early in the week we’ll post all of the new all age comics that will be released that week.  We’ll also review a couple of them.

Spidey Super Stories 39

I was raised on Spidey comics in the late 70s.  It was a great all age comic that young readers could jump into and let their imagination go wild.  I want our kids to be able to find and read those same types of comics that make them happy, creative, young readers.

The parenting

At least once a week we’ll write about parenting.  We’re a dad that stays at home with the kids and see plenty of teachable moments every day.  Every Friday we’ll post the parenting stuff.  On some weeks we’ll post parenting posts more than once.

The travel and Poop Culture

We’re traveling more now!  That’s awesome because I do love to travel.  As a kid our travel was limited to the beach and that was awesome.  However, as an adult I traveled much farther, living abroad for a couple years and traveling to some cool places.  When we travel we’ll evaluate things from a parent’s perspective, things to do, local foods, etc that will make your big trip or vacation more enjoyable.

The poop culture will still be here.  That’s our general bucket term for things popular.  A movie review, stupid celebrities, parents in advertising/PR that got it right (or wrong) or anything else that defies categorization, but is still a fun topic and relevant to children.

Whew.  That’s our brown bag manifesto.  Ok, it’s a lean, friendly, manifesto with a side order of kitten video and a template for what to expect here at Daddy Mojo.   Things here aren’t changing too much; we’re just broadening our windows a little bit.

To that end, if you want to write for us, just yell.  We’ve got some comics that need to be read, places that you might have visited or sage parenting advice that you need to share.  If that’s your scandal then email trey@daddymojo.net to let us know what you want to do.
