Little Boy, inspiration and a boy’s love for his father

Little Boy is a film that I’ll be watching soon for #FandangoFamily. It’s rated PG-13 so I won’t be taking our children who are three and five, but from the reviews that I’ve read it’s a solid film for date night, teens and the upper age tween children. Little Boy is the story about the relationship between an eight-year-old boy and his dad.

Dad gets called off to war (in WWII) and the film concentrates on the bond, love and inspiration that happen between the two. ‘Believe the Impossible’ is the tagline and after watching the trailer you too might just get that feel-good movie vibe going on around you. Sure it requires suspension of belief and childlike hope, but isn’t that part of going to the movies?

They’ve created a side site for Little Boy called 30 Days of Inspiration. On the site you can share with others things that inspire you. Is it your family, nature, work, pets? There are examples of things from all sorts of people that inspire them.

So, what inspires you?

Our initial reaction after seeing the trailer is that it looks like a heavy drama. In reading those reviews they pointed out that the film has as many comedic and action/war elements to it. Those thoughts, plus the part of us that wants to believe that a quality film for most ages can be made, without much CGI that focuses on story. The fact that Little Boy is based on creative play between the boy and his dad, as well as the bond that they have is another reason. It’s too much for our kids now, but I suspect when they’re nine and 11 they’ll be watching this.
