Superbowl Sunday Collectors Con, Robert Pope, Peanuts, Scooby-Doo, dealers, comics, Atlanta

The Superbowl Sunday Collectors Con in Atlanta, Feb 7

Cons are good.  The Superbowl Sunday Collectors Con in Atlanta is a great low-key con for collectors and fans to get their fun on during a normally slow winter month. I say ‘low-key’ con because it’s one day, has a really low entry (only $5!), some fabulous comic artists (with no signing fee!) and they’re giving away $2,000 in merchandise at 3:00. It’s being held at Atlanta Marriott-Century Center Hotel from 11-5 on February 7.

The event has two fabulous artist/animators appearing. Both of them will not be charging for autographs and have a body of work that will impress new comic book fans, as well as, old school folks from back in the day.

Robert Pope is an artist whose work I knew, but never knew that I knew until I interviewed him. He’s been drawing Scooby-Doo and Peanuts, both titles we’ve highlighted many times during our weekly all age comic book run down. We interviewed him about how he came to draw such iconic characters and the overall comic book landscape. He also shed some light on how it is that the cover and the inside of comic books can look identical, despite the fact that they’re done by different artists.

Roberto Yun Rodriguez is an animator that has worked on Family Guy, Archer, The Cleveland Show and many others. If you’ve got a questions about how to get your budding artist into the world of top notch animation be sure to bring your questions.

Both artists will be there from 11-5 talking with fans, signing things, doodling and making us mere mortals wonder how they can create things with such ease.

There will also be lots of dealers. Just a reminder to have the smaller kids not to touch things on the table, we learned that lesson quickly at a show the other year. We also have it on good authority that there will many tables with $1 comics and probably some tables with $5 graphic novels. If you have a young reader in the house it’s an excellent time to stock up on things.

All of this happens at the Superbowl Sunday Collectors Con, February 7, 2016 at Atlanta Marriott-Century Center Hotel, 2000 Century Blvd, NE, Atlanta, GA, 30345
