Easter basket ideas for boys

Boys are different than girls. Certainly, both a 6 year old boy and girl would love a good Easter egg hunt. However, when it comes to Easter basket ideas for boys you should plan accordingly; lest you have egg on your face. Sure, some of the items below will cross over to the girl Easter baskets and vice versa. Being the dad to a 4 and 6 year old boy we know what they’re asking for in their Easter basket and here are a variety of ideas that range from bigger items like the Star Wars throw to a trip to your local $1 store.

We were provided with the Star Wars throw and National Geographic books for the post, but, it’s Star Wars and Nat Geo. Everything else was paid for by us and all of the items would rock a boy’s Easter basket like nobody’s business.

Star Wars Throw

Neither of our children has seen a Star Wars film. However, they both love Star Wars, already know Darth Vader, Chewbacca and know that they want to see it ASAP-the only question is what order will it be shown to them in…?

The here and now is that they want Star Wars stuff and a Star Wars throw is perfect for a young boy who simply wants to snuggle on the sofa with Garth Gater.* The throws range from $25-$39 from The Northwest and come in a variety of materials. If throws or blankets aren’t your thing then dig into some of the Force pillows and get free shipping on any order over $49. If Star Wars isn’t your scene….really…name a sports team, popular culture brand like Peanuts, Sesame Street and such and they’ve got something cool there.

*Our 4 year old can’t quite pronounce Darth Vader yet.

Skylanders BOGO-UPDATED (3/22!)

Embrace the BOGO. This is the kind of deal that you see around Black Friday. Through March 26 at Best Buy and Game Stop it’s buy one Skylanders SuperChargers Character or Vehicle and get one free. They’ve been marked down to $9.99 at Toys R Us. Target has all Skylanders toys half off and Wal-Mart has legacy rollbacks on them.  Every store listed above (except for Wal-Mart) has Skylanders SuperChargers Starter Packs on sale at $29.99.

Crayola Crayons

Crayola Crayons are the stuff of legend to children. This is one of the things that we always buy brand name. If you purchase crayons that are not Crayola they will not color at all, you can’t even melt them down to make a candle. The Crayola pack of 64 is great to have, but the eight pack of basic Crayola Crayons, that you can get for under a dollar will entertain the kids for hours too.

You Read, I Read books from National Geographic Kids

Our 6 year old is at the stage where he can read text that he hasn’t seen before, but sometimes he needs a break. The You Read, I Read, Level 1 series books from National Geographic Kids are perfect for him right now. On the left page there is text that the adult is supposed to read. Its text is smaller than the other page, has slightly more advanced words and one new piece of vocabulary for the young reader to learn on the right page.

The right page has vocabulary that a young reader can say aloud. This gives them confidence that they can do it while the other page allows them to learn new words and soak in the gorgeous National Geographic photography.

A Hot Wheels vehicle

A genuine Hot Wheels vehicle is always in our go-to stack of gifts. One of the best gifts that we got for our first child’s baby show was a 5-pack of Hot Wheel and we still have those cars today. Single Hot Wheels will cost around .95 at big box stores. If we see them for less than .85 we always pick up a handful of them for emergency gift items.  This is the best $1 you’ll spend for a boy’s gift bar none. Witness this classic from the early 70’s that I received as a child. It’s still rolling large and being played with by children 40 years later.

Comics

We’re a little biased towards this category, but comics make a great gift anytime. Put a single issue of Action Cat & Adventure Bug, SpongeBob Comics, Scooby Doo or some other great all age comic in their basket and you’ll have a happy kid-who just might gravitate to reading books without pictures really soon.

The $1 store

Your local dollar store has lots of great deals to pack in an Easter basket for boys. Your local dollar store also has a couple of things that we never purchase there for the children. Never purchase crayons there, they seem like a good deal, but they do not color well at all. Some of the toys there are made of really cheap plastic, be careful. Our local store has some cool Mickey Mouse and Simpson’s figurines that are quite nice to play with and a great price too.

The dollar store is our go-to place for activity books, stickers, party decorations and seasonal items. Any of those four items you can’t go wrong with in your Easter basket.

What have we missed? If you have any can’t miss Easter basket ideas please toss em this way or let us know on twitter.
