Getting in the dress up spirit with PJ Masks Halloween Party

“I’m going as Owlette”, she said. Well, that’s one reason why those two are such good friends, I thought to myself.  Our oldest was leaving science club as he was having a conversation with her. PJ Masks is a popular topic of conversation at the early elementary school level. Being that it’s Halloween time the PJ Masks costumes will certainly be front and center at your door this year.

“Connor becomes: Catboy” or “Greg becomes: Gekko” is what our two will be saying. They’ll try their best announcer-guy voice, just like the cartoon. We had a practice costume run the other day and the boys were giddy over the fact that their costumes glow in the dark. To be clear, it’s accented parts of the costume that glow once they’ve absorbed some sunshine.

Their specific emblems on the front of the costumes glow, as do some stripes on the legs, mask and gloves. Our youngest especially loved the fact that the palm of his hands were blue and that he could see them in the pitch black of his closet.

“My tail comes off” he yelled as he was trying to pin the tail on himself. He then cried when he was unable to attach the Velcro back on so our game of pin the tail on himself was cut short. His brother’s Gekko costume also has a detachable tail.

I’ve never been too into dressing up for Halloween, but did latch onto some cool Halloween printouts that allow you to cut the face of your favorite PJ Masks character onto a pumpkin. Pro tip: use power tools. If you use a jigsaw to cut the top off of the pumpkin it’s safer and quicker than using a knife. It may seem like overkill, but it really IS safer.

Pumpkin carving. It’s safer and more precise with power tools.

Etching is a popular technique to create more intricate drawings on pumpkins. It’s as if you’re carving around the area that you want to highlight, which makes the ‘face’ of the character pop out more. Pro tip: use a multi-tool. It can be done using those pumpkin scrapers that you purchase in stores, but a multi-tool with a wire sanding attachment will do the job MUCH quicker. Its surface won’t be as smooth as the effect accomplished with a scraper, but from a distance nobody will notice.

If you want to get in on the PJ Masks Halloween fun there’s a whole sheet of ideas, crafts, baked treats or party options to plan your spooky time where you can take back the night. When you do that, just tag any photos with #PJHalloweenParty so that others can glean some inspiration from your mojo.
