Dig the Scholastic Summer Reading Road Trip RV in Atlanta on July 21

The Scholastic Summer Reading Road Trip RV is ending its nationwide trip in Atlanta on July 21. The summer slide is real and all summer long the Scholastic Reading Road Trip RV has been cruising across the USA helping kids, parents and communities keep kids reading during those school-free months. An RV full of free reading activities, authors signing books and giveaways is just the sort of thing to help out parents and energize young readers.

As a parent I’m really happy that our kids love to read. Our 7 year old was visibly upset when he found out that the Scholastic RV was stopping in Atlanta during the time when he’s in camp. I assured him that we’d bring back something that he could read, write, slap on his wrist or recommend to friends.

In part we credit Fly Guy for this. He was the first character that our son liked. He found out about Fly Guy through his cousin, who blazed a reading trail two years prior to him. Even before that there was Clifford, recently it was Captain Underpants and soon it will be a young wizard from Hogwarts named Harry.

When your child sees the Scholastic Summer Reading Road Trip RV they will recognize at least one character that they’ll know and love. It’s making two stops in the metro Atlanta area on July 21.

MARIETTA RV STOP

WHERE: Switzer Library, 266 Roswell St NE, Marietta, GA 30060

WHEN: July 21, 2017

TIME: 10 a.m.-12 p.m. ET

DECATUR RV STOP

WHERE: Decatur Recreation Center, 231 Sycamore Street, Decatur, GA 30030

WHEN: July 21, 2017

TIME: 4 p.m.-6 p.m. ET

At each stop they’ll have some giveaways, as well as two best-selling authors. The Rooster Who Would Not Be Quiet! is the latest book by Carmen Agra Deedy. She’s been writing children’s books for over two decades, has won many awards and absolutely loves talking to school children. Sandra Merkle has written over 200 children’s books, many of which that deal with nature, weather and kids discovering them both.

Both stops in metro Atlanta will have a tent jam packed with children’s activities, giveaway tables and a prize wheel. They’ll also have costumed characters including Clifford the Big Red Dog and Geronimo Stilton. It’s important to point out that the event will be at Switzer Library in Marietta and at Decatur Recreation Center in Decatur. The Decatur stop is in conjunction with Little Shop of Stories, but due to parking the RV will be just down the road from their store.
