The Adam Project fills the big shoes of the films that inspired it

For teens in the early 1980s the only time-travel  jam that was worth your time was The Final Countdown. Years before Europe made it the title to one of the best songs ever, it was a head-bending, what-would-you-do, escape onboard a wayward American aircraft that traveled from modern day times to just before Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. Similar to The Black Hole, that film put an indelible mark somewhere and somehow into my movie-going psyche. The Adam Project has that same vibe, but it’s a movie that is sharper, more contemporary and much faster paced than its time travelling contemporaries. It’s also on Netflix, which is a fact that might add to people’s enjoyment of the film.

The Adam Project is a feel-good movie that blends time travel, action, humor and heart.

Netflix and some streaming options for the flu and cold season

We’re part of the Stream Team for Netflix and received goods or compensation for this post. All thoughts are our own. In our house we’ve had three out of four people down, to some degree, with the flu or otherwise germy funk that is usually associated with children. The youngest one had his hand on the tablet and the adults were splitting time between the televisions. Here’s a rundown of some things that you might want to watch if you, or your kids are stuck in bed with the flu or some Petri dish of infection.

Captain Underpants/Boss Baby

These two movies are great for different reasons. When our 6YO had the flu he must have seen Boss Baby at least eight times. Captain Underpants was watched by him and I twice. Personally I prefer Captain Underpants, it’s a better film, with more depth, but kids will certainly enjoy both. Continue reading Netflix and some streaming options for the flu and cold season

Two holiday season must-sees on Netflix

We’re part of the Stream Team for Netflix and were compensated for this. All thoughts are our own. The Christmas season snuck up on us again this year. It really shouldn’t sneak up as it’s the same time line every year, but it somehow does. One element of the ‘sneak’ is that the family didn’t have enough time to watch some of our go-to Christmas movies. Now that the kids are older they actively enjoy some films and are old enough to know what they like. One such series of films, The Santa Clause, is back on Netflix and they’re good enough to watch anytime of the year.

Educational options for elementary school kids on Netflix

We’re part of the StreamTeam for Netflix and were compensated for this post-all thoughts are our own. With school starting for the vast majority of students in the United States let’s take a look at some of the education options on Netflix for elementary school aged kids. These are all shows that either of our 5 or 7 year old kids could watch. Some of them skew younger, but we’ll detail the ages and why it’s good for them.

Brain Games

Brain Games is for the older elementary school kids. There is nothing wrong with the content for younger kids, it’s just all education. This originally aired on the National Geographic Channel and is about the power and mystery of the mind. It’s fascinating because it has various optical illusions that you know where the answer should be, but people (and you) make the incorrect decision.

Ask The Storybots

How do airplanes fly? How does night happen and more are discussed in this very cute show for young elementary school viewers or younger. It’s hosted by digital characters with the assistance of various animation and is very cute. It’s funny stuff that will engage young viewers into learning something even when they just want to relax.

Big screen, small screen, these Netflix options are close to the source

We’re part of the Stream Team for Netflix and were compensated for this post. All thoughts are our own. The remaining part of 2017 has lots of great movies coming to theaters. Not surprisingly, many of them have prequels, sequels or movies that are similar to them showing on Netflix. If you watch something then it will pop up the next time in the “Because You Watched…” line that’s below Trending Now. Let’s take a looks at five major movies coming out and some Netflix options that fans of those films will want to see.

Netflix, star wars, rogue one, harry and the Henderson’s, White Chicks, the shining, portal to the unknown. Continue reading Big screen, small screen, these Netflix options are close to the source

Education options for the cord cutting family on Netflix

We’re part of the Stream Team for Netflix and were compensated for this post. The end of a school year means the kids are home more. Even if you have summer camps and family vacations planned the kids will still be in front of the television more. This means that you’ve got to be careful what they watch, especially if your family is like ours and cut the cord. Relying on Netflix for your home entertainment options can still be educational for kids during the summer.  Here are six cool options that are great for kids as young as two.

Octonauts

What’s the Midnight Zone? Our children saw that episode on Netflix more than four years ago and can still tell us marine trivia. Sure, The Octonauts are just an animated show, but it immediately attracts children who are two years old and up. It’s filled with fun characters and much more education than  you realize. Case in point: the midnight zone, it’s the really deep part of the ocean where those shy, colorful creatures hang out.

BBC

A quick search of some BBC options on Netflix reveal Bob the Builder, Angelina Ballerina, Octonauts (!) and Sarah and Duck, but also dozens of fabulous nature documentaries. Those documentaries will be rated G or PG and have the trademark BBC quality that adults know and seek out. From sharks, wolves, planets, continents and weird animals there’s a BBC documentary that will suit your child (or you!).
