A Letter to Momo is an anime film that works on several levels, including the most elusive of all-getting non-anime fans to enjoy the film. That’s no easy task considering that a focal point of the movie is the death of young girl’s dad very early in the film. It’s from the creators of Ghost in the Shell and like that film is rich, detailed and provides a chamber of commerce look as aspects of Japan.

Welcome to the Space Show is a Japanese anime science fiction film that is appropriate for all ages. It’s anime, set against a science fiction story that has massive visions and almost gets there, almost. Welcome to the Space Show has some of the most gorgeous animation that I’ve ever seen. For a solid hour every scene has something fascinating, new and wondrous on it. Even outside of that hour the film is visually stunning, but there are a couple elements that keep me from really recommending it.

I remember seeing Star Wars with my dad in the theater. That was back in the day and he wasn’t too jazzed about it. Granted he was probably happy to hang out with me and that I was so happy to go. Here at Daddy Mojo we get some unsolicited products that we don’t review. We don’t review them because it would take time and if they’re not paying then it’s a waste of my time. Well surprise surprise, I liked Guardians of the Galaxy. OK, that may not be entirely unexpected. What will be surprising to those that watch it is how much they enjoy watching it too. Guardians of the Galaxy is a Marvel movie, but it feels like a sci-fi/action movie. It’s easily the best movie that Marvel has done. The film is more fun than The Avengers and is the only one from Marvel that I’ve immediately wanted to see again.

Planes is the kind of direct to DVD workhorse that most studios would love to have. In this case, as in the first Planes, it goes to theaters for a week or two and will be out on DVD in two months. It’s not a slam to say direct to DVD. However, it’s not at the same Frozen level of quality that families expect from the brand. Disney will make about 200 million in theaters and push it out on DVD. With all this in mind, Planes: Fire and Rescue is better than the first movie and has some genuine laughs in it.

I don’t really do grades on reviews, but in coming up with a title for the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes review it is necessary. The movie is not what I expected and my expectations were very high, but after thinking about it Dawn of the Planet of the Apes exceeded them on every level. In the end, the movie has as much, if not more in common with combat/war movies than the science fiction that you might expect from the title.
An instant family classic movie is how some of my friends described The Lego Movie. It’s awesome and makes our Duplos want to grow up. Of course our kids are only 4 and 2, they’re young builders who are already eyeing the big boy sets. You want to win a copy of The Lego Movie, yes? It’s simple and you can even make a short video of your own LEGO creation.
