4 things families need to know before attending Monster Jam

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday. Insert a day of the week, say it three times in your announcer voice and people immediately know what you’re talking about. Monster Jam. Our kids are somewhat older so we can finally start introducing them to the pleasures of large trucks with big wheels getting massive air from dirt jumps. Monster Jam is pure Americana family fun. It’s for everyone, will leave the kids pumped up and breathless, but there some things that families need to know before visiting.

Zootopia is semi-deep end Disney, fun animation with a soft message

Zootopia is a fascinating movie because one hand it’s a well done animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios. Sure, one expects their films to be well made, but what is surprising about Zootopia is how the plot can be looked at from entirely different perspectives, depending on your age. Recap: don’t trust anyone over 30. Every animal in the world has no predatory instincts. Those that used to kill and eat other animals no longer do. Every critter is domesticated and in Zootopia all of anthropomorphic species are living together in close quarters.

The Superbowl Sunday Collectors Con in Atlanta, Feb 7

Cons are good.  The Superbowl Sunday Collectors Con in Atlanta is a great low-key con for collectors and fans to get their fun on during a normally slow winter month. I say ‘low-key’ con because it’s one day, has a really low entry (only $5!), some fabulous comic artists (with no signing fee!) and they’re giving away $2,000 in merchandise at 3:00. It’s being held at Atlanta Marriott-Century Center Hotel from 11-5 on February 7.

Norm Of The North, Atlanta preview tickets and prize giveaway

It’s mid January and you need a good family for the kids to go see. Those cold, winter days sometimes just yell for the comfort of a warm movie theater to quell the busy of kids, we get it. Norm Of The North is it. Our hopes are high for the film because it has Bill Nighy, Rob Schneider, James Corden and Ken Jeong, among others. The cast for Norm is deep and includes many other people, but those four actors have a good track record for being in things that we consistently enjoy.

Taking time out at Denny’s for dinner with the kids

Hey, we’re a Denny’s Ambassador and were compensated for this post. Having said that, bacon. Manic chaos. Life is like that. During the holidays more people than usual are like that. This week on one of our many, seemingly countless errands we stopped by Denny’s with the kids. It was a chance to, dare I say, relax during the holiday season, recharge and then head back out. I saw their Tastes of the Holidays and it spoke to me.

LivingSocial, local date nights and more #Giveaway #Gift2TalkAbout

This is a sponsored post from LivingSocial. We were compensated and all thoughts are our own. My wife is a doer, I say that with the utmost sincerity. By that I mean that for those ‘special occasions’ she likes to do something.  We haven’t done dance lessons yet, but that’s probably on her radar or things that she’ll ‘hint’ my way when the next anniversary or birthday rolls around. For these times she hops on LivingSocial to check the deals closest to us and jumps onboard. If you (or your spouse) do this, then read on about the $50 giveaway in Deal Bucks we’re giving away. If not, read on as to why they rock and are a date night that saves you big money off of where the night is normally.

For our most recent anniversary she asked me how I felt about making my own sushi. I said that I’d like to try it and she signed us up for a LivingSocial deal that cost $49. Had we not gone through LivingSocial it would’ve cost $100. It was a sushi class that was taught by a local restaurant owner who does some sushi teaching on the side. She was a sushi master, spent years in training, lived in southeast Asia for a long time and went into great detail about its history and preparation.

Dinner tonight! It was oishiii yo.#food #Japan

Cabinet of Curiosities, a book on the wonders of the natural world

Think back to when you were a 7 year old child taking a walk in the wood near a river. You’d find a rock with scratches on it and imagine that it was from an alien world or prehistoric time. The stick that you found could actually be a bone that belonged to a dinosaur. The leaf from the tree was just cool and that arrow head is probably worth a fortune. We always took the treasures home and put them in a shoebox. Cabinet of Curiosities takes that sense of wonder and experimentation, cleans it up, widens your perimeter and actually tells you what you found in the natural world.

Spoiler alert: you probably did not find the dinosaur bone that will bring Sue’s sibling to your hometown.
