Peppa Pig: The Balloon Ride out on digital and DVD

The amount of British programming that our children watch almost qualifies us for dual citizenship. The latest cannon to enter our fray is Peppa Pig.  It’s huge in the UK as it’s been the number #1 pre-school property for the past four years and is utterly charming, for certain demographics.

Peppa Pig is about Peppa, George her brother, Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig. Each episode is as simple as that too.  They last about 6 minutes and are all very simple, but quite enjoyable.  Some episodes will have the supporting characters of Suzy Sheep, Pedro Pony, Danny Dog and more join in for the harmless confusion, jump in mud puddles or go to a birthday party.

Our almost 5 year old pitched a fit when we were about to watch The Balloon Ride.  His almost 3 year old brother was grinning from ear to ear because he loves Peppa.  However, after watching the initial :30 introduction to the DVD our oldest was requesting which episodes he wanted to see.  From the moment you hear the theme song you’ll be drawn in too.

Even for us, Peppa Pig is very disarming.  The show is squarely aimed at the pre-school audience with its animation and slow, deliberate dialogue, but it’s enjoyable for moms and dads too.  We won’t watch it at night when the kids are asleep mind you.  However, it’s a big step up from some children’s programming that is difficult to sit through.

Peppa Pig knows its strong points with short, enjoyable episodes about cute, friendly animals.  They’re riding balloons, sorting out sibling rivalries or any other harmless, yet educational situations between people or like-minded animals.

Peppa Pig: The Balloon Ride has 12 episodes and retails for $14.98.  If you don’t know about Peppa Pig yet get ready because the new collection of Peppa Pig toys will be coming in 2015.
