Baby Sees Colors! is a bright, kawaii-culture board book for 0-3

Baby Sees Color! is a statement of fact and a board book for those babies that just got off the baby boat. Why are board books important? Babies as young as 6 weeks old can make out shapes and colors.   For parents who want their kids to see the brightest, most vivid and certainly the most kawaii book need to check out Baby Sees Colors! This board book is a phenomenon in Japan and has sold 700,000 copies there. Baby Sees Colors! is available in the United States for the first time in all of its bright colored, wavy-lined glory so that new parents can watch their babies go down the rabbit hole.

Most board books that are aimed at the very young are bright and jammed with sharp graphics. Baby Sees Colors! takes the brightness and toddler interactivity up one level. It’s kawaii with a capital K and brightness that all but moves the pages on their own accord.

The text in Baby Sees Colors! is simple, with four to seven words in large black font. The words take on the shape of their graphic, sometimes swirling around a yellow snake or cascading down an alternating color scale. The text is awesome, but it’s the graphics that’ll rattle your babies’ attention. This is a high contrast book that makes the other ones in this category take notice.

Even as an adult, you’ll find yourself curious about the book and then slowly, ever so wonderfully slowly have your imagination start to work. Your eyes will leisurely scroll over the page after you read the text, taking a look at the bright fish set against an impossibly dark blue background.

As it’s a board book the pages are thick and able to withstand those teeth that are teething or merely curious. The pages are glossy and reflect light to a high degree, which makes reading it with a ceiling fan light on all the more engrossing. However, at the end of the day, Baby Sees Colors! is a board book and the target audience might not be that discrimination. For us though, this is one of the more creative, energetic and graphic happy board books that kids 0-3 will encounter.
