This is a look at the new all age comics that are OK for young readers. Some of these comics are also great for any reader :) We’ll review some of them and provide as thorough a list of all the new titles coming out that Wednesday.
Voltron Legendary Defender is a five-issue mini-series from Lion Forge Comics that takes place immediately after episode 108, Rebirth, from the latest Voltron series that’s airing on Netflix. The content in the comic book is great for ages 9 and up because it teaches teamwork and friendship, but also has action and space travel to keep kids interested.

The middle of November, relatives are coming into town or you are going on the road. What are the best all age comics that you need to make the road trip more tolerable? It could be a comic book or two at your otherwise comic-free house to entertain small people. There are some classic ones like Simpsons Comics and Sonic hitting stores, both of which are always dependable.
First off let’s start with the teens. There are two cool comic books that might fly under their radar. If you have a 13 year old boy or older and you want them to feel at home pick up either one of these two. He Man Thundercats #2 brings the two 80’s franchises together in a mash up that parents-in-the know will dig and teens who like middle Earth style action will also. The trailer for Kong: Skull Island is everything I hoped it would be. The comic book Kong of Skull Island has some incredibly impressive monster art, smashing, jungle scenes that are great for those same ages.
For the true all age comics there are seemingly sets of everything. There are two Archies. Archie #14 from Archie Comics is the more contemporary, updated version and Archie Comic Super Special #7 is the thicker, ‘classic’ Archie.
There are three Doctor Who comics, not including the final issue of Supremacy of the Cybermen min-series.
Scooby got a reboot, did you hear? Yeah, Scooby Apocalypse is the zombie Scooby that’s good for teen readers. Their most recent issue came out last week. This week sees Scooby Doo Where Are You #75 and Daphne has to get all warrior princess on some ghosts in order to help the team. This is a classic and every issue can be included as one of the best all age comics when you see it.
Our 5 year old may not know it, but he’s super excited about Donald Quest, a five issue mini-series starring steampunk Donald and his partner Mickey. Can our 5 year old read? No. But he loves looking at Donald Duck and this one is right up his alley. If Donald isn’t your scene there is also a new Uncle Scrooge, Mickey Mouse and Darkwing Duck available. The music in the podcast is from Halloween.

Space Battle Lunchtime is the best (almost) all age comic that you’re not reading. Its title is ridiculously cool-all that’s missing are bacon, robots or ninjas to utterly claim the title for best comic title ever. The premise is simple; Peony is a baker from Earth who is competing in a mashup cooking/gladiator competition on another planet.

What are some good comics for my kid to read? We get asked that a lot and we do have some go-to best all age comics that are great for boys or girls. One of those titles is Spongebob Comics. Each issue has a couple of different stories, is packed with creative art, funny dialogue and does so without the rudeness that might put some parents off. It’s a great title for ages 6 and up, plus the comic book doesn’t have stories that continue to another issue. Readers can rest assured that you won’t be tricked into reading the second part of a lame story, but you shouldn’t because each issue of Spongebob Comics is flat out funny.
A mini-series that brings together two of our favorite titles is out this week. Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures #1 (of 6) puts the all ages titles for these two mega heroes in one book. This is great for any age, the violence will be the same as the Nickelodeon show (not bad at all) and it’ll give young kids a ‘real’ super team up.
In humor comics this week kids 8 and up who love oddities and laugh just a bit outside the box will love Chimichanga. It’s the story of a freak show bearded girl who befriends a skinny creature who has the world’s worst face. Don’t be fooled by its surroundings, this is a fun title that’s just enough on the outside to let kids be cool and rebel, but with a fabulous comic you’ll want to read too.
Some of the other best all age comics this week are the staples, like Donald Duck, Adventure Time, Doctor Who, Back to the Future, Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy and others.
We also mention some of the kidlit releases here and this week sees the 500 pound gorilla of kidlit, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down hit stores. Mention this series to an upper elementary or middle school student and their eyes light up. Our 7 year old neighbor saw our copy of the book arrive and I nearly had to tackle her for it. This is the book that your kids will want to read this fall.
If you have a teen reader check out WWE Then Now Forever and Godzilla: Rage Across Time. Both of these series have action and situations that are too much for elementary age kids, but will fit the bill for upper middle school and up.

Even though Halloween is over you can still enter The Greatest Halloween Costume Contest Ever! Just take a photo of you, or your young reader with a copy of one of the Halloween Comic Fest Mini-Comic. Upload it to their site and cross your fingers. There are five categories with two winners in each, one kid and one adult. Entries will be accepted until November Monday, November 7 at 11:59 PM. Now this week in new all age comics brings one of the best in a very long time for the girls.
If you have a girl young reader there are sine new all age comics that they’ll want to read. For example, Care Bears Rainbow River Rescue is a new graphic novel that is great for any age. The trade paperback for Beauty and the Beast is out from Joe Books. Supplies on that one are limited so order in advance or grab it if you see it in the stores. It’s only $7.99 too, so it’s quite the deal.
There are still more comics that are just for the girls. Disney Frozen #2, also from Joe Books hits stores and is only $2.99. Mega Princess #1, Miraculous, My Little Pony trade paperback Vol 1, Unicorn vs. Goblins graphic novel and DC Super Heroes Big Book of Girl Power is out. A new graphic novel, DC Super Hero Girls trade paperback Vol . Hits and Myth is only $9.99 and has an all new story. Boys will be OK with this one, but it’s certainly going to appeal to girls more.
Sonic Mega Man Worlds Unite trade paperback Vol 2, Broken Bonds is a great book for elementary school kids. It’s packed with action, but does have vocabulary that might be a little challenging for first through third graders. There are also some cool Doctor Who comics, a pop-up book for younger Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fans, Spidey, DC Super Heroes Big Book of Superpowers and some other cool titles for kids too.

The week before Halloween means it’s the final chance for you to pick up the Halloween Comicfest Mini-Comics. They’re $4.99 and have 25 individual comics that are great to pass out for small people in costumes. Speaking of costumes, the Greatest Halloween Contest Ever is happening now. Just snap a photo of someone in costume holding one of the free full or mini-sized Halloween Comicfest Comics and upload it. Winners will receive a $500 or $100 shopping spree to your local comic book store. In all age comics there is something for every age reader regardless of what they like to read.
This is the week that has lots of Joe Books. Joe Books are the publisher that puts out Disney’s Darkwing Duck, Disney Frozen, Disney Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, Dreamwork’s Shrek and many others. All of those comics are out this week for the bargain price of only $2.99 an issue.
For tween or teen readers there are two fun choices out this week that might fly under their radar. Future Quest is a mash up of the classic Hannah Barbara characters with a story set in modern times. It has lots of action, throwback appeal and some great, realistic art. KISS is most certainly for teen readers because of its future dystopian future and the themes around it. However, this series looks like buckets of fun. It’s a story that was inspired by The Elder, the KISS LP from 1981 that was really under rated, go give it a listen.
One of the best monthly all age comics that you pick up each month is Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Issue #12 comes out this week and the series is a whoot about a girl, going to school, STEM education and dinosaurs. Sonic Universe, X-Files Origins #3, Doctor Who, Lumberjanes and the trade paperback for Action Cat and Adventure Bug hit stores this week.
What are some of the best all age comics for your kids? There is something for every reader and if you need help just ask the folks at the front when you arrive. It can be a little intimidating to go into a comic book store when you don’t know what you’re looking for, but they’ll make the process quite simple.

This is one of those weeks. It’s a week for the new all age comics when almost every single one of them is a go-to comic book. From Adventure Time Comics, Archie, a Garfield graphic novel, Invader Zim, My Little Pony, Popeye and Simpsons Comics it’s a great week indeed-and those book are only in the humor category!
Two additional funny all age comics you’ll want to check out this week are Herobear and the Kid 2016 Fall Special and Pink Panther Trick or Treat #1. Herobear is the Eisner Award winning series from Mike Kunkel about the story of a boy and his super bear stuffed animal. Any age will immediately love and relate to an alternate world where children’s toys have a life of their own. It’s lovingly drawn and has a timeless appeal that will draw anyone regardless of their interest.
There are a couple releases this week that are more appropriate for ages 12 and up. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe, Godzilla: Rage Across Time #3 and Kong of Skull Island #4. Those last two are action packed and feature too much real violence and danger from some readers who are under 12.
Mad Magazine is one of those things that teens may or may not like. We picked up an issue recently and it wasn’t funny. It certainly had moments, but not enough to merit its $5.99 price tag. If you haven’t read an issue of Mad Magazine lately it’s appropriate for ages 14 and up, due to some of the drawings, humor and adult situations.
Graphic novels as a means to reading all age comics might not be everyone’s delivery system due to their cost. Part of that is fear and investment. A $3.99 investment in a comic book isn’t much, but a $13.99 purchase means that you really need to like it. Having said that, Plants Vs. Zombies Graphic Novel Boxed Set #2 is one of the safest buys you can do this week regarding graphic novels for all age readers. Our 5 year old can only read his name and likes looking at the art. Our 7 year old can read quite well and rabidly enjoys these characters.

Chimichanga, The Sorrow of the World’s Worst Face is a freak show. No really, the backdrop for the comic book is Winkle’s Traveling Circus and our main characters are the freaks. They’re fun loving good-natured folk who society just doesn’t understand, plus Chimichanga a giant green monster that eats anything.
