A Father First by Dwayne Wade misses a layup

I’m a dad that is not a sports fan.  I know the big names, but I don’t have any idea what position they play or how their last game was.  Dwayne Wade is a superstar basketball player with the Miami Heat.  If you’re like me you thought that he was a character from A Different World.  “A Father First” is his life story that takes readers from his impoverished beginnings in Chicago to living the high life in Miami.  Continue reading A Father First by Dwayne Wade misses a layup

Preschool Gems is a great toilet book and that’s a good thing

The books that have occupied my bathroom reading have changed through the years.  The constant for the past number of years has been The Far Side.  During my 20’s The Duct Tape book was there; along with some men’s fashion magazine that I never followed the clothing or grooming advice to.  My bathroom reading is still evolving now that I’m married and have children who are old enough to form somewhat coherent sentences. Dad reads Star Wars-Crimson Empire III Empire Lost

Star Wars, Crimson Empire III: Empire Lost is the long awaited sequel to Crimson Empire II.  Long awaited can be a mixed blessing.  Is it long awaited because fans lost interest, it wasn’t good enough to merit a quick release or the company is pushing it?  In the Star Wars universe some things take time and this delayed sequel is a result of story changes and schedules not due to demand. Kirby: Genesis Vol. 1, trade paperback-Review

I received the PDF for this graphic novel just over a month ago.  I read it in a couple of days and have procrastinated reviewing it because every time I opened it to review it I couldn’t stop reading or looking at the art.  Granted I’m somewhat easily distracted (look-a kitten!), but Genesis sucked me into an old school comic world I haven’t seen in a while. Continue reading Kirby: Genesis Vol. 1, trade paperback-Review

Dad spends a night in the mancave: Safe

Jason Statham movies need to be reviewed by an entirely separate grading system.  For the most part he plays a policeman/military guy who has been framed or had his family hurt.  When Statham steps out of that stereotype he can shine as an actor, for proof of that just look The Transporter, Italian Job and Bank Job.  Continue reading Dad spends a night in the mancave: Safe

The weak men and women of The Week The Women Went

Last week I reviewed a new 5 episode series on Lifetime called The Week The Women Went.  As a television show it’s watchable, but very far from enjoyable. The concept behind the show is interesting, but in the end it’s just a mess.  It’s rare that commentary is done on Daddy Mojo, but being from the south and having been on reality TV, a voice of reason and logic needed to step in.  Continue reading The weak men and women of The Week The Women Went

You’ve Got a Friend, movie review and giveaway

Hallmark produces safe, family friendly movies.   You’ve Got a Friend is one of those movies that was originally shown on television in 2007.  It’s being released on DVD this week and if you want to win a copy of this very safe for the family movie keep on reading. A Dad watches The Week The Women Went

The Week The Women Went is a five episode series on Lifetime about a small town in South Carolina that sends the women out of town for a week.  Lifetime is a network on cable whose target audience is women.  Having said that I’ve been to the network once or twice, but it was to watch something starring Jennifer Love Hewitt.
