Steven Universe: Season 2, giveaway and Garnet galore

Our house alternates between their favorite show on Cartoon Network. We Bare Bears and Ben 10 are always mentioned. If our kids were slightly older then Steven Universe would be one of their favorites. This show is smart, beautifully animated, has some great songs and provides the off kilter science-fiction that our two loved about Adventure Time. Season two of Steven Universe has 22 episodes of this Emmy nominated and critically acclaimed series that are as smart as they are funny.

Season Two of Steven Universe also introduces fans to gem leader, Garnet. To further make fans of the show go over the moon each package includes an exclusive Garnet fusion keychain. The DVD also includes never-before-seen animatics from episodes like “The Answer”, “Sworn to the Sword”, and “We Need to Talk” among others.

There are also two music albums available for sale from season 2, Steven Universe: Volume 2 Soundtrack and Steven Universe: Karaoke.

We’re giving away Season 2 Steven Universe on DVD. To enter win just RT this or leave a comment below. This giveaway ends on June 7 at 12:00 PM.

But wait, there’s more. Also in this giveaway is Season 1 Steven Universe! Wha?! Yes, you’ll win Season 1 and Season 2 of Steven Universe on DVD. They’re sold separately, we’re just giving them away together because it’s the end of school and the kids are making us do things that don’t make much sense.

Win a She-Ra prize pack to celebrate Season 2 on Netflix

This looks like She-Ra, but channeled through a Lumberjanes lens with just a hint of anime, I thought as the trailer for Season 2 of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power was playing. Little did I know how correct I was. Season 2 of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power starts on Netflix on April 26 and Noelle Stevenson is the creator, writer and producer of that show. She was also one of the original co-writers of Lumberjanes and creator of Namona.

Stevenson’s style is very unique and has influenced many of the all age comic books that we review each week. All one has to do is look at an issue of Lumberjanes (one of the best all age comics!) and then look at other comics that will target middle school girls and you’ll see her influence. Now take that, toss in some great 80’s girl power and you’ve got She-Ra .

We’re giving away a She-Ra Season 2 prize pack that includes:

  • FIVE (5) SHE-RA Activity Sheets
  • FIVE (5) SHE-RA Hair Ties
  • FIVE (5) SHE-RA Sticker Sheets
  • FIVE (5) SHE-RA Temporary Tattoos
  • FIVE (5) SHE-RA Watercolor Paint Poster

Basically, it’s the go-to supplies for a group of elementary school kids who are having a sleep over. She-Ra is a very entertaining show. It will appeal to girls slightly more than boys. For example, our 9 year old boy declined to watch it. However, his 7 year old brother willingly stepped up and watched some of season 1 with me.

The giveaway will end on May 1 at 9PM. To register, just leave a comment in this blog post or RT this:

The show crackles with wit and has a fun vibe that makes She-Ra, its own entity. It doesn’t crib off nostalgia, this is a modern story with humor, action, friendship and science fiction that kids  7 and up will love.   Season 2 of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power starts streaming on Netflix on April 26. Plan ahead for the kids to see a couple episodes and if they’re new to Adora or the Horde get caught up on Season 1.

*We received the same giveaway pack that we’re giving away to our readers for our compensation. I don’t suspect that our kids will enjoy it, but I know a group of girls in one of our son’s elementary school classes that will go mental over this.

Attend Google’s Digital Village at Atlanta Science Festival on March 23

Google, Atlanta, Atlanta science festival, piedmont park, mathapalooza, googles digital village,

For the past two weekends we’ve been attending events put on by Atlanta Science Festival. We learned about this event when the boys and I went to Dragon Con last year and each event that we’ve been to has been incrementally better-with each event being great fun. Atlanta Science Festival ends on March 23 with Exploration Expo. As part of Exploration Expo, Google’s Digital Village is happening to allow kids a hands-on coding workshop.

Exploration Expo is Saturday, March 23 from 11-4 at Piedmont Park. It features hundreds of STEM-focused activities, all which are family friendly. There will be interactive booths from local organizations, universities, clubs, companies and more. You’ll see a 3D printer, touch a python (the animal, not the computer….) and do most anything to help minds of all ages question, grow and appreciate science.

Our 9 year-old has loved all of the events that he’s been to this year. After the first event, appropriately called Mathapalooza, he asked, “Daddy, can I skip school tomorrow to do more with the science festival”? Alas the answer to that question was no, but I’m certain that he’ll have a blast at Exploration Expo and Google’s Digital Village.

You do need to RSVP to attend Google’s Digital Village, but like almost all of the events at Atlanta Science Festival, it’s free! So, RSVP quickly because admittance is limited to 30 people per session and there are only three sessions that day, at 11, 12:30 and 3:00 p.m.  Parents and guardians do need to be present. Google’s Digital Village is recommended for middle school students. However, if you have a computer curious or even savvy, middle to upper elementary school student it’s worth checking out.

Also at the workshop is Google’s gravity-powered race car. A gravity powered race car, as Marty McFly would say, “That’s heavy”, closely followed by Doc Brown questioning the problem with Earth’s gravitational pull in the future.
