Despicable Me 3 vs. Cars 3-What should the family see?

Despicable Me 3 and Cars 3 are out within two weeks of each other. They both target the same audience, those families that want a good film to take the kids to when summer requires a break or just 90 minutes inside the air conditioning with the smell of popcorn everywhere. Both films are entertaining, but there are differences that might influence how you decide to spend your precious movie theater dollars.

In this corner, Cars 3, the G-rated juggernaut from Walt Disney that is one of the most popular franchises in the world. Children love these characters; have birthday parties after them and their parents purchases million of dollars in Cars merchandise. As a film Cars 3 returns to the quality roots of the franchise. Forget the silly spy escapades of Cars 2 because with Cars 3 it’s back to the track with an aging Lightning McQueen.

Plan ahead for MomoCon next year, May 24-27, 2018

Geek life, parenting, family, pre-teens who like manga or anime and college students who want to cosplay and party. To some extent all of those variables exist at any con; however, at MomoCon they exist on a level so perfectly other cons wish that they could bottle its secret sauce. The tricky part of that equation is the family element. If you have a con that’s too family friendly then it won’t be interesting to the kids. If the con has too high of a demographic then it’s great for adults, but too much for children.

MomoCon manages to assemble the standard elements that make a con fabulous, but has deftly managed to keep it incredibly family friendly. A family that cons together stays together and families that attend MomoCon can usually be divided up into two groups. There are the families that go there to cosplay and those that go for the games.

Justice League: Battle For Metropolis at Six Flags is top notch family fun

Justice League: Battle For Metropolis just opened at Six Flags Over Georgia. It’s a 4D interactive attraction that takes riders through Metropolis as its under siege from a litany of villains in the DC Universe. The ride was names one of the Top Ten New Amusement Park Attractions by USA Today and was awarded the Brass Ring for “Best New Product In The World” by international Association of Amusement Parks. That’s a whole bunch of accolades, but is Justice League: Battle For Metropolis a fun ride for the family?

Oh yes, Justice League: Battle For Metropolis is a hoot for ages 5 and up. I was concerned that our 5 year old wouldn’t like it-or be too scared to go on it, but he really enjoyed the ride. This is a slow moving ride where riders shoot various bad guys and villains with the laser guns that are in front of them once they’re seated.

Mamma Mia!, the farewell tour finishes in Atlanta

Mamma Mia!, the massive Broadway tour is finishing its run after an amazing 14 year run. My wife and I saw the show when it came through Atlanta several years ago. It’s a greatest hits recap of ABBA’s career. However, odds are that you already knew that, to recap the headline again: Mamma Mia! is ending its tour this year. Ending, final, last, no mas, this is it for Mamma Mia!

Did you see the film? Mamma Mia ties together a handful of great songs from one of the world’s greatest musical groups. Think of a great ABBA song and it’s most likely included in this traveling show. Dancing Queen, Take A Chance On Me, S.O.S., Super Trooper, The Winner Takes It All and many more will all be heard during this show’s final run.

I love ABBA. I really enjoyed Mamma Mia!. My wife likes ABBA and loved the musical. She loved it so much that it was one of her go-to, ‘if it ever comes to town again, just get tickets’. For the record Sting and Annie Lennox have the same ticket mandated request from her. It’s a short list. Continue reading Mamma Mia!, the farewell tour finishes in Atlanta
