The Brother P-Touch Label Maker durability garage test

In August I announced that Daddy Mojo was participating in the Brother P-Touch Ambassador Program.    It was my submission that my garage was where good tools go to die or at least get lost amongst all the clutter.  Between all the bikes, children’s toys, shop vac, bicycles and strollers we had to fit a car and have a toddler walk through there without tripping or being attracted to anything sharp or dangerous.

I was given two test strips that were printed from the Brother P-Touch Label Maker and put them on the on the one area of my garage that sees the most action, the floor.  It would be cool to say that my hammer drill or reciprocating saw sees the most work, but that just wouldn’t be true, curse my white collar life.

I was asked to place them in the garage to see how durable these two test strips would be.  Granted labeling something doesn’t guarantee organization or cleanliness, but it helps you chart a course and monitor things so you’re more likely to be organized.

It’s that no man’s land of where you step once you get out the car and head to the door.  Strollers, lawn mowers, tiny toddler feet and other things will graze this area.  Boom, no wear, tears or stains whatsoever.   It’s as white as it was the day it was put on the floor.

I was asking for trouble putting one of the Brother P-Touch labels on the floor in front of the door.  The garage door sees the dirtiest traffic into the house and is stepped on dozens of times a day.  Having said that, the test strip held up almost 100%, with only a slight ding and discoloration.  The ding could also be my fault as I didn’t entirely clean the surface before I placed the strip down.

I was really impressed with the strength and durability of the two test strips from the Brother P-Touch Label Maker.  I had heard the radio commercials about the product, but didn’t really know what to expect from the product.

My only memory of a label maker was the old school alphabet gun that I had when I was a kid.  It produced clunky, raised labels that stuck to a surface for a couple days, then got yellow, cracked and fell off.  That was back in the early 80’s. The VHS and Betamax battle was raging and my only concern was trying to listen to Bark at the Moon without my parents hearing it on my boom box.

The Brother P-Touch Label Maker is a label maker that exceeded expectations and proved to be much more useful than originally though.  I made labels that have stuck to various plastic cups-and been washed dozens of times, as well as, labels for children’s clothing that stick, don’t fall off and look much better than my handwriting.

Did participating in the Brother P-Touch Ambassador Program help the garage?  It improved the garage on several levels and taught me lots about what I was doing wrong.  For example I had four cans of WD-40, 5 different hammers, two rolls of electrical tape, two jars of plumbers putty and three spare smoke alarms.  I’ll detail all about the physical improvement to the garage in another post.

I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Brother P-Touch and received a product and gift card to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
