Marvel is giving away 700 free digital comics

Alternate headline:  Dad blogger calls in sick for a couple of days.  Marvel Comics is giving away 700 digital copies of a wide variety of their comics.  That’s a lot of digital comics.  Some of them are from the new MARVEL NOW! Reboots, while some of the comics are first issues or classic stories from the 90’s or 00’s. 

They’re free until 11:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 12.  I’ve been downloading comics all day.  The demand is huge and they’re downloading really slowly now.  Marvel Comics put out a statement basically saying, ‘thanks, minor technical issues, we’ll let you know when they’re fixed’.

Having said that, if you have the Marvel app already loaded on your tablet you can go in there and download them.  The issues won’t download, but your foot is in the door and hopefully by the time they sort out their technical issues they’ll either finish or confirm your download.

We’re already reading a couple of the MARVEL NOW! titles, but this is a great chance to load up our tablet with other issues.   The free comics are listed by super hero, Acclaimed and Noteworthy, Cosmic Heroes, Marvel Events, Marvel Heroes, Marvel Zombies and Ultimate Universe.

I was lukewarm to digital comics at first.  However, now they’re my preferred method of reading them.  The art really pops and you’re able to actually follow the story AND enjoy the art even more.

This promotion by Marvel is great PR and a chance to introduce people to digital comics.  Any social media professional or PR pro knows you need to give away some of the product in order to make the sale and Marvel is doing just that.

Be patient with the download time, but be quick because it all ends at 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12.
