Making #DadTime with Lowes and home improvement

I have partnered with Life of Dad and Lowe’s for this promotion. One of my best early memories of my dad was when he helped out at my elementary school. The classes were building wooden toy cars and he was there helping put them together. That was one of the first things I remembered when he told my wife that I was always better than him at fixing things. He sends me indirect praise through my wife like that, he’s old school. Now that our kids are getting older I’m doing my best to include them in some quality #DadTime Lowes projects around the house so that I can tell the same thing to their wives in 20 or 30 years.

I jest, I’ll tell them to their faces that they’ll never be able to fix things as well as I can.

I’m dreaming of an LG Studio Kitchen at Best Buy, come see why

The reviewer has been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free. It’s probably a coincidence, but we’re new kitchen shopping. Our house was built in the mid 80’s and the appliances were new to it in the mid 90’s. If I touch our dishwasher for long enough I can channel Faith by George Michael. Then I start wondering about Andrew Ridgeley, I’ll text my wife about the funny scene from Music and Lyrics (the whole movie basically) and bam, dinner is over cooked and the dishwasher needs to be cycled. It’s a scene from the island of lost kitchens, which is right next to the island of lost toys, and is quite relevant this time of year. We got to experience a new LG kitchen from Best Buy and I think our current kitchen was trying to tell me something because my dishwasher just told me that WHAM! broke up.

These are the three items at Best Buy that you need to save money #ad

We were compensated for this post. All thoughts are our own and we really do like faster downloads, streaming TV, saving money and watching live TV. My wife and I are a great team and we each know our role. She’s the type that is less likely to start something while I’m the one that is less likely to complete a project. Know your role. Knowing that about us, I just completed three tasks from start to finish that will save the family money, entertain us more, frustrate us less and it all took less than one hour to accomplish. We installed a Nest Learning Thermostat, Netgear Nighthawk DST Router with DST Adapter and Sling TV; all from Best Buy, with each one doing amazing things.

How to install a refrigerator gasket

Who is putting magnet droppings inside the refrigerator? I looked at the boys just in case they had taken scissors from the craft closet. I checked if the magnet monster in the house to see if they had to use the bathroom. Both situations were negative. After looking at the refrigerator door I saw that the gasket had a crack along the top and that it was also fraying parts of it, leaving it inside and creating a loose seal once it was closed.

Whose Tools? isn’t just for DIY kids, but it helps

Our children immediately identified with Whose Tools?,  a new children’s book that teaches them 24 tools and the professions that use them. The book is surprisingly detailed, features six different contractors, like a mason, carpenter or plumber and has thick pages with simple words that are great for young children.

Bugs and insects got the memo on Orkin #LearnWithOrkin #ad

This is a sponsored post.  All thoughts are our own and the stories are true, even the ones involving bugs. We sat in on an Orkin presentation and learned about bugs.  As it was with Orkin, the bugs were of the noun variety instead of the adjectival kind, but we’re familiar with both kinds…unfortunately.

The craisin on the floor of my permanent record

Permanent record.  That’s a scary phrase growing up isn’t it?  Especially in junior high school, the mere thought of something going on your permanent record was enough to scare me and most of my friends straight.  Now that I’m a parent the craisin, AKA, the dried cranberry is something our kids love, but have become the bane of our cleaning life.
