Week 23-Mom and Dad your baby is the size of a papaya!

We know, it seems like this was the title to last week’s pregnancy update.  Oh, the difference a week can make because last week was number 22 and this is the 23rd week of your pregnancy.  Your baby however, is still the size of a papaya.  There have been some mighty changes going on in your body, but you’re past the halfway point.

Ladies, the biggest change this past week has been the disappearance of your good friends:  the ankles.   Oh, they’re still there; but all of that blood flowing around your body has made your ankles look like they’re merging into your feet, instead of having their own proper name.

When dad feels your belly because you feel the baby all he can feel is a pulsing sensation, which is all that blood zipping around your body and feeding the baby.  It’s pretty cool.

It’s kind of like that scene from The Abyss where they are demonstrating how you breathe water in order to live.  The technology and the possibilities for adults to breath liquid, like we did when we were in utero is a fascinating thought.

Ladies, your stomach is really starting to round out now and the waddling should be full on penguin.  Eat this time of your life up.  People will open doors for you, ask when the baby is due, if you’ve named them yet or any number of questions all designed to make you feel good.    This could be that magical ‘glow’ that pregnant women sometime s comment on.

The temporary size increase of your ankles is a small price to pay.  Don’t think of this time as your ankles getting bigger, think of it as a chance to go out and purchase new shoes that you’ll wear for the next three months.
