Toddler Mojo eats: So Easy Toddler Food, review and giveaway!

Unfortunately, peanut butter and jelly only goes so far.  Eventually the toddler tires of PBnJ and will yearn for something new.  However, the food can’t be too new or scary, because then the toddler will just sit in the chair and yell “COOKIE”!

Daddy Mojo can eat anything.   On the third date with my future wife we had dinner at my house.  I forget what I cooked, but she came into the kitchen and noticed that I only had two forks.  “Are the rest of your forks dirty”, she asked.  “No, I only have two”, I responded.   Those two forks didn’t even match.  It’s a glorious wonder that I’m married now.

I mention that story to drive home the point that; left to my own devices, I would eat bark off a tree if it would save me from cooking.    Last time I checked the reality TV show market for stay at home dads who eat bark and forage from their back yard to feed a toddler is slim.  I better learn to cook more meals for a growing toddler.

So Easy Toddler Food, plate and book
So Easy Toddler Food, plate and book

So Easy Toddler Food has super simple recipes that include a wide variety of ingredients.  At the beginning of the book in also has a basic primer on what tools you need for the kitchen, snack tips and more.  Don’t use food as a reward (or punishment), eat with no distractions, be patient and be sure to tell your child what they’re eating are just some of the tips they put forth.

All of the meals come with nutritional facts, all of the ingredients needed and how long it will take to prepare.  Because toddlers aren’t very patient, all of the meals are quick to create.  The longest meal in So Easy Toddler Food takes 20 minutes to prepare.

The book also comes with a plate.  This plate is divided into three areas:  Fruits & Vegetables, Proteins and Grains.  Even if you’re not using the cook book the plate gives you a good eye measure of how big a serving size should be for your toddler.  The plate that comes with the book looks very much like the updated nutrition plate from the USDA.

Toddler Mojos go-to lunch meal is the Sunshine Wrap.  The Sunshine Wrap is a tortilla with peanut butter spread on it and then has raisins, carrots and apples on top.  It’s simple, healthy and gives you ideas for other meals.  If those things are good on a tortilla, why not try other fruits and vegetables?

The book is divided up into breakfast, lunch, dinner, salads, soups and desserts.  The book says ‘Toddler food’ but if you make enough of some of dishes it’ll suffice for adult taste buds too.  One of the lessons that the book teaches in the first couple of pages is lead by example.  What I do is make one of the healthy dishes from a cook book that is geared to get toddlers and eat it too.

It’s great, quick and doesn’t use fancy cooking terms.  The goal is to introduce new foods to a toddler who can sometimes be a fussy eater and this book does that very well.  Another benefit is that all of the meals are healthy and can help you prevent childhood obesity.
