The dirty little secret of a stay at home dad

My wife and I used to try to do it once a week.  That was the goal.  However, as with any family with an infant or toddler can attest, sometimes the time just gets away from you.  Now we’re lucky if we get around to it twice a month.  When we finally get down to business, it sometimes smells and you need a brush to clean the surface.  We just have to clean our toilet more often.

It’s all because of the toilet brush.  With a curious toddler roaming the house they’ll pick up anything that their curious hands can grasp.  When I saw Toddler Mojo brush his hair with the toilet brush I knew that it had to go into the bathroom closet.  The closet door isn’t sealed with wax or anything, but out of sight out of mind and our toilet doesn’t get cleaned as often as it should.

Scrubbing Bubbles has a new product out that automatically cleans the toilet.    Automatic and clean I like, however, we’re skeptical.  We acquired a coupon for a free Scrubbing Bubbles One Step Toilet Bowl Cleaner and will pit one toilet against the other.    At the end of 30 days we’ll see if the toilet using Scrubbing Bubbles really is as clean as the toilet that is cleaned every week, every other week as often as possible.

One Step Toilet Bowl Cleaner sits on the ground beside the toilet and has a small hose that you connect to the lip of the toilet seat.  Twice a day you’re supposed to step on the pedal that will release the foam, cleaning the toilet.   Is this better, cleaner or easier than using the classic toilet brush?

This is similar to what we did with weed killers in the spring.  We compared three different weed killer in three different spots in the yard to see which was the most effective.  For the record, Spectracide Weed & Grass Killer beat the others without much competition.

Disclaimer: We’re doing this just to see if which is easier and cleaner for a busy stay at home parent.  The product was free, but the makers of Scrubbing Bubbles didn’t give it to us and aren’t participating in this experiment.

If, at the end of 30 days our toilets-and our sons hair, is better off using the toilet brush then we’ll let you know.

  1. Interesting to see how this turns out! I feel that usually, automatic cleaners aren’t as thorough as doing it by hand, although they’re much easier!

  2. Sounds like when Toddler Mojo figures out he can stamp on the pedal he’ll be cleaning the toilet for you 😉
