Two fabulous online communities for parents and pet owners

In addition to wrangling things here I do some writing and social media management.  Both of those worlds are colliding to some extent in two new ventures that are happening that you need to know about.  The parenting angle is covered by The Go-To Parents Community on Google + and my experience with animals is being used as a writer on The Pet Match Maker.

The Go-To Parents Community on Google +

I’m one of the co-moderators at the only parents community on Google +.  The group is moderated by Kimberly Blaine of The Go-To Mom.TV and Kerry Traylor of Parenting Goddess serves as the other co-moderator.   Membership is free and the group is monitored so that any offensive or off topic posts are deleted.

Communities on Google + are lots of fun and an opportunity to share tips, concerns, brag, ask questions or do anything relative to the group’s topic.  The Go-To Parents Community has a wide variety of topics that include blended families, toddlers, single parenting, tech and more.  It’s safe zone where parents can ask, vent, question or seek support.  If you’re a parent, grandparent or step-parent you’ll get some insight from the group.

The Pet Matchmaker

For 5 years I worked as a fundraiser, social media guy and PR consultant for a large animal shelter.  During my time there I encountered thousands of situations of people, their pets and the problems they were going through.

The Pet Matchmaker is a website that has articles on all things relating to pets.  Not just cats and dogs, horses, small animals, fish, birds and everything else-if they’re your pet; they’ve got some information there for you.  The other goal of The Pet Match Maker is to continue educating people about the importance of adopting a pet from a shelter; instead of purchasing a pet from a breeder.

The Pet Match Maker won’t have any pets available for adoption, but will have lots of information about pets.    The Pet Match Maker was founded by Elaine Hendrix.  Elaine is an actress who also volunteers across the country for rescue organizations.   Elaine volunteered some of her time with the shelter I worked at when she was in town shooting a movie and we’ve been in touch ever since then.

For The Pet Match Maker I’ll be contributing a couple of articles a month on a topic relating to animals.  My most recent articles were about saving money on pet care and the pros and cons of using your local humane society as your veterinarian.

  1. MOJO!

We had a Great Dane for the first 12 years of our 14 year marriage. She was our baby. Since she passed we’re neck deep in diapers of our Wee Lass. So our pets are imaginary at the moment.

Interesting….is there a market for The Imaginary Pet Matchmaker? I’d clean up! Dibs!!!
