Indestructibles by Workman Publishing takes board books to the next level

To parents who read to newborns and toddlers board books can be their go-to solace. However, all board books are not created equal. They might have spines that are thinner than others or content that just doesn’t appeal to the audience. Granted, the later is a preference thing, however, given that you’re reading to infants or babies who are between birth and two they probably won’t be too picky. To that end, Workman Publishing has a series of books on their Indestructibles line that truly live up to their name.

Indestructibles is a book imprint from Workman Publishing whose books are durable, rip-proof, colorful and perfect for newborns through two.

These books are indestructible. The books stick as close to their imprint name as food books that would be published on the Delicious imprint, if such a publisher existed. They’re chew-proof, rip proof, washable and nontoxic. Crawlers can crumple them up, chew on the pages, drag them across the floor, spill their mushy food on them or any number of literary torture devices.  Even if your child eats pumpkin flavored baby formula and then spits up on the book it’s OK. All you have to do is put the book in the washing machine and put that orange tinted nightmare behind you.

Each Indesructibles book is 12 pages long and has a variety of subjects. We were provided with Let’s Go Outside!, Let’s Be Kind, Te Amo, Bebe and Hola, Granja! It’s worth noting that the two Spanish books have English subtitles, so your little crawler can habla con las vacas. The books are all loaded with different colors, shapes and objects so that readers can go beyond the simple words that are on the pages.

The words on the pages are made up of simple phrases that consist of big letters and a couple sight words for young audiences to gobble up. Kids won’t realize it, but they’ll enjoy the books because they can do basically anything to the books and the books will fine. Parents won’t hang over their shoulder making sure that they aren’t gnawing the pages or ripping them off the spine. Toddlers will be able to drool, paw and slither across the floor to their lounge baby chair. Here they can look at the colors, shapes and Rorschach tests that they see all over the place but can’t tell us about.
