At the risk of burying the lede, the headline is not meant to be hyperbole. Rather, it’s a reminder that kids say the darndest things and it’s one of the jobs of parents to try and remember as many of them as possible. A five year old is full of so many other emotions that they can’t process in a timely manner. We’re used to most of the chaos and love, but the other day he said something that was utterly unexpected and beyond his years.
About two months ago we gave away two fabulous shirts from shirts.com. It was a Star Wars baseball cut tee for men and a Goonies cut tee for the ladies. That is not to say that Goonies is a film just for the ladies. It’s not. We’re down with the Goonies, we never say die, but our wife just loves that film much more than Star Wars.

The other day I had major back pain so I went to the chiropractor. When I lay down on the table he said, “Are those Rockports”? Yes, yes, they are I said in my best Phineas and Ferb cadence. Specifically, they’re the new Walk 360 Toe Guard shoes. He then went on to show me his Rockport shoes that he’s had for years. It was a new bond between me and my chiropractor, just before he got to the brass tax of twisting my arms, legs and torso in such a way to smooth out my angry muscles.
It is one of the busiest weeks for new all age comic books in a while. The titles are spread out evenly between some great graphic novels like Ben 10, Ultimate Spider-Man Web Warriors and Regular Show to quality single comics like Abigail and the Snowman, Adventure Time, Bart Simpson, Popeye and more.
Two new releases this week that we’re curious to see are Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Jen and the Holograms. The first is a mini-series that left us skeptical at first, but if they can make entertaining movies with Pirates of the Caribbean, then why not this? The second looks like a nice all ages comic, a la, Josie and the Pussycats, but we’ll give it a look over and let you know.

The next best place to an airport to people watch is the food court. The boys and I were having ice cream and the eldest snickered at someone walking by. “It’s not nice to laugh at people”, I said. I looked up to see what had attracted his attention and did a double take. He was a teen that looked as close to someone in person as one of the Twins from The Matrix as you could imagine. Granted, he was shorter and wasn’t wearing a trench coat; but he was the suburbia twin looking for Neo, or perhaps ice cream.

Mouse Guard is the best all age comic that I hadn’t read. My first interaction with Mouse Guard was a couple of years ago when they released something for Free Comic Book Day. That brief comic was amazing, the art was some of the prettiest that I’d seen, the story was cute and simply perfect for everyone. I must get the graphic novels that came before this I said. Alas, time passed and I forgot. Although I still read that free comic, I wanted more Mouse Guard. It is here and it is awesome.

I found out that a friend of mine from college was in town and I messaged him immediately to if he’d have time to get together. He said that he’d be in town for three days and would have some free time at the end of his conference. It was great seeing him again because it brought back some great memories and encouraged me about today’s young people.
