All age comic books for October 28

This Wednesday is new comic book day and that means that some cool all age comic books will be popping up in your local store. If you’re not sure where your local comic book store is, just visit comic book store locator and type in your zip code.

Normally, Halloween week is one of the busiest of the year for new releases. This year it’s a bit slower than most, but there are still some great all-age comic books for readers in upper elementary school and up. Those elementary school readers, who also like some great art to move the story along are most likely fans of Geronimo Stilton. For those people, Geronimo Stilton Reporter-Paws Off Cheddarface! from Papercutz will be just their jam.

If your reader is just a bit older then check out Mega Man Fully Charged. It’s got more action than Sonic and all of the humor too, it’s a great series for ages 9 and up. For those Iron Giant fans, you need to see X-Ray Robot. Issue #3 of this series is out and has the classic vibe of that movie, plus a very smart plot that will hook middle school readers. This week in all age comic books has lots of our go-to comic books, some cool teen releases, as well as a couple of great board books for those pre-k through kindergarten geeklings. Our favorite and our 11-year-old son’s are Scooby-Doo Where Are You! #106 and The Amazing Spider-Man #50. The former is a classic comic book that’s at home in any elementary school library (or home setting!) and the latter is great for mid-elementary school readers and up (way up!).

Those middle school readers need to check out Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #55 or Jim Henson Dark Crystal Age Resistance #12. Both of these series will have enough action to keep ages 12 and up entertained, as well, as some great dialogue to push the comic forward to a deeper level.

There are also two awesome board books out for geeklings aged three and up (or younger!). Black Widow My First Mighty Marvel Board Book and The Dark Crystal Book of Opposites have those thicker than average pages that pre-K and lower elementary kids want to read. When I was that age the board books weren’t nearly as cool. For the entire list of all age comic books just jump on past the graphic.

All age comic books for October 14

This week in all age comic books the keywords are Catwad, Lumberjanes, Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales Donner Dinner Party, and Mr. Wolf’s Class Field Trip. Those four titles will entertain readers in elementary school all the way through high school. The youngest readers say in elementary school who are between six and nine will enjoy Mr. Wolf’s Class: Field Trip. This series of graphic novels is just perfect for that age. It has situations they’ll understand, sight words they’ll know, and be the kind of book they can read themselves, or with a little help.

Those elementary through middle school readers will love, and probably already to love Catwad. This is a surly cat whose antics are funny and presented in nuggets that those ages who haven’t discovered comic strips yet, will enjoy. Catwad Four Me? is the fourth book by Jim Benton and will delight ages seven and up. Middle school readers who want some comic book science-fiction/friendship based fun check out Lumberjanes. This monthly comic book is coming to an end soon and is one of the best out there. The characters will still adventures coming out on television, specifically to HBO Max and a movie that’ll be out sometime. This comic book is awesome, check it out if you’re looking for something great.

Those upper elementary school readers and older will love Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales: Donner Dinner Party. This series of graphic novels from Abrams Books presents non-fiction with a cheeky sense of humor. The jokes aren’t in your face and present history in a way that’s eye-opening, fun to read, and makes those who want to learn more about said character or event go further down the rabbit hole. Donner Dinner Party is about the explorers who left Illinois in 1846 for California. Someone decided to take an off-road short cut which led to disaster. Expect lots of puns, a little black humor and more education and fun than you thought was possible from a graphic novel.

All age comic books for October 7

Hello to age diversity and graphic novels this week! In all age comic books, there is generally a wide range of readers who would be great fits for anything and this week is a testament to that. That is especially true if there’s an elementary school reader who is looking for a great graphic novel to latch onto. Those emerging readers have their pick of the litter including Clifford the Big Red Dog The Movie Graphic Novel, Arlo & Pips King of the Birds, Dolphin Girl Trouble in Paradise, Gabby & Gator and many more. That last graphic novel is by James Birks of the great Bird & Squirrel graphic novel series. That series is a go-to for any elementary school reader, so keep an eye out for his new book. It’s also worth noting that the fourth book in the very popular Mr. Wolf’s Class by Aron Nels Steinke is out this week. Field Trip is elementary reading fun that also gives kids confidence because they can read the graphic novel by themselves.

If it’s middle or high school comic (drama) you want, then check out Zits, Screentime. This latest treasury of the classic comic strip captures teenage angst meeting parental frustration at its best. This strip is celebrating its 23^rd anniversary and 16-year-old Jeremy is just as normal as any actual teen. Because of this, it’s a strip that can be enjoyed by middle school readers all the way through moms and dads.

There are some all age comic books out this week too. The Amazing Spider-Man #49 is out and it’s a big issue. Clocking in a $9.99 this is landmark #850 if you’re following to the legacy, lineage of the series. The Rise of Ultraman #2 of 5 will be great for those left-of-center kids looking for something cool. Sonic the Hedgehog Bad Guys #1 of 4 and Star Wars Adventures #1 will both be great for readers aged 8 and up who are looking for a great comic that their friends are reading. All age comic books for September 30

This week in all age comic books has two of the best releases that we’ve seen this year. Each of them is very different and will attract a reader. First up is Investigators, Take the Plunge which is the second book in this series by John Patrick Green. This graphic novel is hilarious, well written, jammed with action, and has jokes that will work for elementary school readers and way up. My wife loved the book. I loved the book and readers ages 8 and up looking something akin to Dog Man need to read this. Investigators, Take the Plunge follows two alligators who try to solve a crime that’s laden with puns, visual gags, and jokes that work for young kids and different ones that skew just a bit older.

My Pencil and Me is by Sara Varon. It’s an illustrated book that breaks the third wall for young readers. This could be a read-along book for those aged five and up. It centers on a writer who’s having trouble writing. Her pencil starts talking to her and the creative insanity grows tenfold from there. The illustrations are great for young ages and feature all manner of animals playing baseball or engaging in the story of the pencil and Varon. This is a great, good-night book that will remain in your forever bookshelf. It’s a shorter book than Varon usually writes. Her previous books like New Shoes have been good but had a softer sense of humor. My Pencil and Me is humor that’s front and center that will make adults laugh and kids want to read (and laugh).

In comic books this week check out My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #90, Star Wars Adventures Battle Wars #5 of 5, or Stranger Things Science Camp #1 of 4. All age comic books for September 23

Happy new comic book day, if you’re DC Comics you’ll be celebrating on Tuesday, everyone else will have their new books delivered to stores on Wednesday. If you have a young to mid-elementary aged reader they’ll need to check out Fox & Rabbit: Make Believe. This is an original, hardback graphic novel by Beth Ferry with illustrations by Gergely Dudas. It’s a graphic novel that uses warmth, friendship and the imagination that a kid can relate in a book with distinct chapters, but is also loaded with pictures. Call it comfort food for the young, reluctant reader’s heart. Those six through eight-year-olds that are told that they must read, but are knee-deep in graphic novels need to look at this series.

In all age comic books, Looney Tunes #256, Sonic the Hedgehog #32, and Mega Man: Fully Charged #2 are all out this week. A trade paperback that’s worth checking out, Power Rangers Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is out this week and completely awesome. The comic books in the mini-series had their distribution thrown out of whack by the virus. Because of that, people who would’ve enjoyed this mini-series either didn’t know or couldn’t find the comic books. This is an action-based mini-series that’s great for upper elementary and older. It perfectly captures the identity of each team and puts their respective foibles in each other’s paths too.

All age comic books for September 16

This week in all age comic books is a little light, but still has a couple of great new comic books and graphic novels that’ll be great for upper elementary school and up. If you’ve got an elementary-aged reader of any age then Peanut, Butter & Crackers: Puppy Problems is just the sort of funny bone ammunition that will affect ages four through eight. Crackers and Butter have the house to themselves, but when a hyper puppy enters the house they know that it’s time to get serious. Readers, on the contrary, will find themselves laughing at this graphic novel for elementary-aged readers.

In all age comic books check out a new mini-series starring Spider-Man, it’s the Sins of Norman Osborn and the first issue is out this week. There are also some great Jim Henson releases, Dark Crystal Resistance and Labyrinth Coronation Volume 2 is perfect for those slightly older kids who want classic, well-crafted, fantasy. The monthly release of Sonic the Hedgehog #31 is out and this series is a must-read for grades 2 and up. It’s funny, quickly paced, and never disappoints. Contrary to what you’ve heard, all age comic books are released every week

Teen Titans GO! To Camp! succeeds as a graphic novel for this all age team

Teen Titans GO! is easily one of the favorite television shows in our house and has been for the past two years. Our boys are eight and ten now and I suspect that this show will still be in their queue for the next three years. Moreover, the show is incredibly smart and displays a very high level of humor, all the while making fun of how dumb it can be in certain moments. For us, the show rivals The Simpsons in its intelligence and laughs per minute. Similar to that show, it had a comic book element that was equally as fabulous. Unlike Homer’s vehicle, Robin and his crew continue to have new adventures, and the first one of these, Teen Titans GO! To Camp! is out and is everything that fans of the show enjoy and want.
