All Age Comic Books for August 24, 2016

Happy new comic book day, if you’ll be at the store just hashtag it #NCBD to share what you’re reading. The new all age comic books this week have some great new entries for young readers of any interest. If you like to start out a mini-series at the first issue then jump on board with Atomic Robo and the Temple of Od. This is a great, creative, stable of characters in a story that’ll be enjoyable for ages 10 and up.

Also in science fiction and action there are a couple Doctor Who comic books, Doctor Who Magazine and Doctor Who Magazine Special-it’s a great week to be a Whovian. These comics are OK for all ages, but will have lots of reading. Ages 10 and up will also want to check out Godzilla Rage Across Time, it tracks Godzilla through time and how those in different epochs dealt with him. All age comic books for the fable/fantasy folks include Usagi Yojimbo, Over the Garden Wall and Munchkin. Any of those comics will be great for ages 8 and up, it just depends on their reading style.

Marvel Universe Ultimate Spider-Man Vs. Sinister Six #2, Teen Titans #23 and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 2016 Annual #1 will satisfy the superhero sect this week.  But wait, there’s more, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, The Complete Guide to the Classic He-Man and the regular run of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are out too.

In humor all age comic books it’s a busy week for Joe Books. Disney Darkwing Duck, Disney Frozen, Disney Pirates of the Caribbean #1, Disney Pixar Finding Dory #3 and Dreamworks Shrek #4 all come out this week from them. Futurama, The Pink Panther and Scooby Doo, Where Are You? from DC Comics also hit stores.

Denny’s, talking Pancake and free swag

Hey, we’re a Denny’s Ambassador and were compensated. All thoughts are our own. Take Facebook Live, Denny’s, free swag, their hit web series “The Grand Slams”, add more talking Pancake and you’ve got something to really flip over. It was an interactive chat with Pancake, the sometimes smarmy, perhaps a little vain, entertaining-and now fluffier flour treat from Denny’s. Pancake was all digital, but the humor and quips were in real time and a great example of creative outreach without the knife and fork.

Children’s music, kindie and Beat Bugs of note on Netflix

We’re were compensated for this post. All thoughts are our own. Our kids have loved music since birth. As parents we’ve also been aware of the content that is in that music. Sure there will be a time when radio with its suggestive, violent or misogynistic lyrics will be a part in their lives, but that time is a couple years away. There are some cool avenues for music that are appropriate for children on Netflix. One show of note is Beat Bugs, a series that is intended for younger children and features some Beatles’ cover songs.

Win a family 4-pack of tickets to EnduroCross, 8/27 #Giveaway

What is Endurcross? Imagine a situation where large rocks, trees, water, sand, impossibly large tractor tires and more are put on a path.  Now get some of the best motorcycle riders in the world together, put this course indoors- that is Endurocross and it’s coming to Duluth’s Infinte Energy Arena on August 27. Doors open at 6:30 to this very family friendly event that will have kids on the edge of their seats.

Yes, Endurocross is family friendly. It is also very loud. If you’re going you will want to bring some ear protection. Don’t be cheap and just go the bathroom and use toilet paper. It is not the same and your enjoyment will be amplified greatly when you have proper ear coverage. There will be lots of kids at the event, most of which have something to protect their hearing.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

The obstacles in front of these motorcyclists are insane. It’s difficult-to impossible to even walk over these obstacles while maintaining your footing or standing up right. Now put yourself on a motorcycle, put sand in the corners to make it slicker and accelerate as fast as you can.

This is for a family 4-pack of tickets to Endurocross at Infinite Energy Arena on August 27. It will be crowded, so go early and have fun!

Kubo and the Two Strings review, poetry in stop motion

Personally, Kubo and the Two Strings is our most anticipated movie of the year. We’re big fans of stop animation, the Shimasen (that 3-stringed instrument synonymous with Japanese music) and Japan, in theory this film combines three massive elements that we love in entertainment.  If you’ve seen any of our historical twitter stream you’ll see elements of those three things all over the place. I took off my ‘me’ hat, put on the ‘reviewer’ hat and took a friend to see Kubo and the Two Strings, just to double check my thoughts on the film.

Bera The One-Headed Troll, Nordic, all age fun-with heart

There is a little Bera inside all of us.  Bera The One-Headed Troll is a graphic novel by Eric Orchard and published on First Second. Bera is a troll, to be clear, she’s a one-headed troll, because some trolls-including the internet kind, have two or more heads.  She’s a gentle soul who is much different than the other inhabitants of The Troll King’s kingdom. And, she’s found a baby, something that certainly flies in the face of accessories that other troll’s have, unless they’re using them as a spice for cooking.

Giraffes Ruin Everything, but this book makes it all better

Giraffes Ruin Everything, it’s true.  Many years ago Richard Pryor had a routine that made a parallel illogical and entertaining jump that snakes will make you run into trees. Giraffes Ruin Everything is a children’s book that ages 3 to 8 will howl with laughter at. Parents will like the book too because it teaches kids a valuable lesson that they might have trouble learning the first time.
