Hello World!, bridges fun and education in a hunt and find book

There is a period in the lives of most young when Ethan Long is their favorite author. It’s that period after board books when they’re making the switch to illustrated books. Our youngest first discovered Long with Lion & Tiger & Bear: Tag You’re It! He loved its energy and art that it’s a book we’ve saved for the permanent library. Hello World! is the first in the Happy County book series that’s aimed at ages 3-6.

Hello World!, where story and education meet hunt and find books

With A Little Help From My Friends, the book feels hollow and short

The title to the post, With A Little Help From My Friends-the book, might seem odd; but it’s necessary to put it that way because the song has been turned into a children’s illustrated book. This is a children’s book that’s written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, or rather, it has the song’s lyrics as the written narrative for a story.  I’m not going to go all ‘back in my day’ or ‘kids these days’ because half of the genius of The Beatles was the lyrics to the melodies that they created. It’s also undeniable that With A Little Help From My Friends is an amazingly catchy song. The illustrated book is slightly more forgettable and that’s ironically due to the song.

A great song does not necessarily translate into a good book

Paint By Sticker Kids Christmas, a go-to activity for ages 5-10

Paint By Sticker Kids Christmas is the latest in the best selling activity series that’s been entertaining our kids for years. The concept behind these books is very simple. There’s a sheet that has a couple dozen stickers on it. Beneath each sticker is a number that corresponds to a number that’s within a blank space in the final image. Young mosaic artists will put the stickers in the picture one at a time until the final image is revealed.

Paint By Sticker Kids Christmas is the perfect activity for kids 5-10: help is not required, they have fun, it’s screen-free and allows them (and you) to relax.
This is the rare kid’s craft book that they can do 100% by themselves

Scary Stories for Young Foxes, dreadful, terror-fun for 10 and up

A kit is a baby fox. Prior to reading Scary Stories for Young Foxes I didn’t know that. It didn’t take me long to realize the horror, love and adventure that they could encounter. Scary Stories for Young Foxes gets so many things absolutely right about what makes a great book work it’s, well…scary. While reading the book it was so easy to imagine myself transforming into a creature to no bigger than a house cat. But the world that I’d encounter in that body is far more treacherous then you’d want it to be.

Scary Stories for Young Foxes is age appropriate horror. Great for ages 10 and up, this is real, (age appropriate) scary (and fun!) and will leave them breathless.
This is age OK scares and horror for ages 10 and up-it’s also Awesome.
