Daddy Mojo reads The Great Expectations School by Dan Brown

I enjoy watching zombie movies.  There’s a sense of dread that hangs in the air.  You want to yell out to the characters not to do something or to run anyplace other than where they are now.  In a way I enjoyed reading The Great Expectations School, a Rookie year in the New Blackboard Jungle for some of those same reasons. How #OWS is similar to “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”

If you’re a parent it’s highly likely that you’ve read “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie”.    If You Give a Mouse A Cookie is written by Laura Joffe Numeroff and is the charming tale of a young boy that gives a mouse a cookie.  Once the mouse has the cookie he asks for a glass of milk.  He then asks for a straw, next a napkin and before you know it the mouse has wrecked the house and asks for more milk, then a cookie. Daddy Mojo reads: Curious Critters by David FitzSimmons

We’ve been reading to Toddler Mojo since he was born.  Now that he’s older, i.e. a toddler, his books are getting more complex.  He has his books that are age appropriate, as well as, several that are beyond his reach, but still enjoyable because of the pictures. Daddy Mojo reads: Finding Uri by Sandy Munro

Finding Uri is the true story of a father and son who never knew each other.  Uri was a WWII pilot, shot down in action, leaving behind a wife and their three year old son, Sandy. A year after his mother’s death, Sandy receives a box that contained hundreds of letters that his mother and father had written to each other.  To make the letters even more emotional, some of them were written after Uri’s death, but before Betsy knew.  Continue reading Daddy Mojo reads: Finding Uri by Sandy Munro

Daddy Mojo reads: Fox and Hen Together by Beatrice Rodriguez

Earlier this year we reviewed a very charming book called The Chicken Thief.  It’s a wordless book that tells the story of a fox, a hen and their forbidden love affair.  Of course any book that has a happy ending, what with the fox and the hen living together, has a high likelihood of producing a sequel. Continue reading Daddy Mojo reads: Fox and Hen Together by Beatrice Rodriguez

Daddy Mojo reads: The End of Molasses Classes by Ron Clark

For people outside of Atlanta the name Ron Clark may solely be regulated to a television movie in 2006 that told the story of Clarks teaching experience in New York City.  Ron Clark was Disney’s American Teacher of the Year in 2000 and has appeared on Oprah, CNN, The Today Show and others.  In 2008 the Ron Clark Academy, a private school for students in grades 5-8, opened on the south side of Atlanta.  In short, Ron Clark is the teacher that everybody wants to have for one reason or another. Daddy Mojo reads: Sgt. Rock, The Lost Battalion

As a kid I didn’t read St. Rock often.  A friend of mine had a big stash of war and western comics, like Weird War, Sgt. Rock and Jonah Hex; while I had Spiderman and Superman.  Mine were more mainstream and my friends’ comics had a historic feel like you were looking back at real events in time. Daddy Mojo’s books for the Toddler: Story Time for Lamb

We stumbled across Story Time for Lamb by Michael Dahl at our local library.  It’s a cardboard book with bright colors and a big eyed sheep on the front cover reading a book.  After a quick glance on the back cover we learned that the book promotes early concepts, animal recognition, speaking skills and….wait where’s Toddler Mojo? Continue reading Daddy Mojo’s books for the Toddler: Story Time for Lamb
