It’s Happy Movie Day to Despicable Me 3. The Blu-ray DVD is out to the most popular animated film from the summer of 2017 and you can now take the cute yellow minions, as well as Gru, his newfound brother and Balthazar Bratt. What are the all ages comics this week? In the podcast and YouTube vide we’ll go over Rocko’s Modern Life from Boom! Studios, Batman and Robin Adventures from DC Comics, Usagi Yojimbo from Dark Horse Comics and more. If you’re here for the printed version of a look at some cool all ages comics here are three that’ll entertain readers as young as 6.
Disney Princess
From Joe Book the Disney Princess series has new stories from Belle, Airel, Tiana, Cinderalla and more. Think of a Disney Princess and she’ll be in this series. It consists of new stories that ages 6 and up will laugh, swoon and imagine themselves in their own ivory-towered palace.
Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II
Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II is the sequel to a very popular mini-series of the same name. In this mini-series Donatello inadvertently opens a door way to another reality while looking for a way to improve his fighting skills. Even worse the door he opens up allows Bane to go to NYC to where the TMNT live. This mini-series will be great for kids 9 and up. It’s important to note that this is the version of TMNT that skews slightly older than TMNT Adventures.
Chimichanga: The World’s Worst Face
Chimichanga: The World’s Worst Face is the story of a traveling circus with all manner of rarely seen creatures. It’s also a very unlikely fabulous all ages comic book. From Dark Horse Comics, Chimichanga has laughs, teaches kids a lesson and provides just enough fright to put them on edge. This is a fun comic book that has a zippy, carefree, meandering spirit that not enough comic books for young readers have.

Somewhere in the maelstrom of author Jo Nesbo’s mind was a Christmas story unlike any other. The result is Doctor Proctor’s Fart Powder, Silent (But Deadly) Night, a book that even by its title, lets you in on the fact that it’s not traditional and clearly aimed at middle grade kids who like fart jokes. However, once you start reading the book you realize that it goes much deeper, touching on the commercialization of Christmas, the story of a retired Santa Claus, family memories and more. It does this while mixing in incredibly silly elements like a taxidermy giraffe head on the front of a flying car, copyright law and of course, fart powder.

Kids love ninjas. That explains why some kids are fans of the Ninja! book series by Arree Chung. They’re picture books that ages 7 and younger will enjoy. Ninja Claus! is the third entry in the series and is heavy on pictures, action and humor, while being light on words. This is the kind of children’s book that kids will read in their head (aka: to themselves), while imagining the ninja moves and traps that young Maxwell does in trying to capture Santa.

It’s a little ironic that The Defiant Ones starts out near the end of the story. The multi-billion dollar deal between Apple and Beats by Dre has been finalized, but not made public. Jimmy Iovine learns from Puff Daddy that reports of the deal are being bragged about on Facebook, which could scuttle the entire transaction. That was 2014, but the road leading up that moment is the true story of The Defiant Ones, which has been nominated for a Grammy for Best Music Film. It is intended for mature audiences and contains content that is not rated.

When is a book whose main protagonist is a turkey not a Thanksgiving book? Zack and the Turkey Attack! isn’t about a turkey taking wrath by increased Tryptophan. This is the fun story about Zack, his friends, grandparents, making crazy inventions in the barn and a turkey who doesn’t like children. In reality, Zack and the Turkey Attack! has more in common with a farm centric Goonies-with a side of STEM, than a tale about Thanksgiving, despite the turkey in the title.
