iRules-detailed tips for parents on technology and children

Daddy Mojo works in social media, I work in technology and I’m also very nosey when it comes to our children – so I haven’t been very concerned with the iDevice revolution. I have a device and so does my husband, so to protect our children all we have to do is secure the connection in our house, right? Wrong.  iRules discusses different elements of incorporating technology into your family – from the devices themselves to the rules and developing technologically responsible children.

Our 4 year old just asked us “Is that heaven”

Meltdown.  Our oldest was two steps away from a complete four-year old melt down in the back seat.  Silly us, we had changed the CD to something new and he really wanted to hear the ‘one with the singing’.  I started to explain to him that it was still singing, but then thought better of a crash course in logic with an ill tempered and irrational child.  Suddenly he stopped and asked “what’s that”?  Oh, it’s a cemetery, I responded, it’s where they bury the dead people.  “Is that heaven” he asked with a grin on his face and twinkle in his eye.

The Columbus Foundation presents the Nina and Pinta this summer

The Columbus Foundation has made floating museums of replicas of caravels (Portuguese trading vessels), used on Christopher Columbus’ first voyage to the “New World” in 1492. I had the opportunity to see them when the ships were at the Beaufort Harbor in SC.  I went with our kids in addition to my parents and my sister’s family. A total of six kids were with us at ages 2, 4, 6, 9, 11 & 13.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is our son’s comfort food.  It’s something that he can be entertained by, laugh a little bit and find nothing scary in it at all.  They’ve got a new DVD out, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Around the Clubhouse World that features an episode by the same name, as well as, four additional episodes.

The precipice at the end of the school year

At the playground the other day after school I was near some moms.  I overheard their conversation where one of them was talking about how their husband didn’t understand the fact that she was dreading the coming end of school.  “oh, you have to drive around and run errands with the kids”, she said that he had sarcastically said.  Initially my ‘Dad Inequality’ gag reflex was triggered, but then I listened, thought about it and realized that she was 100% correct. The Precicipice at the end of the school year Continue reading The precipice at the end of the school year

A Bucket of Blessings- a new classic children’s book for all

There is a lot to love about A Bucket of Blessings, written by Kabir & Surishtah Sehgal.  The story is simple, relatable to children, teaches them lessons and has big words &  pictures for children.  A Bucketful of Blessings is based on a little-known Indian myth that demonstrates the power of sharing, hope and blessings.

Empowering Women Together at Walmart solves your Mother’s Day gift needs

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walmart and Walmart Foundation for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I don’t panic for Mother’s Day.  In a way that by itself is a gift to my wife, a non panicked spouse is a good thing that begets more relaxation.   When you have two children under 5 a calm mom is a great thing to have, or be.  If you’re looking for some nice Mother’s Day gift ideas check out some items from Walmart’s Empowering Women Together line.

Whistlefritz: a total immersion language program that kids will enjoy-Giveaway!

Prior to being a dad I taught ESL for two years.  I’m a big proponent for children learning a second language ASAP.  I also know that the best way to learn is total immersion.  The problem with children learning a second language is that they start too late and it isn’t total immersion in some educational instances.  Whistlefritz is a learning language program for children.  Their Spanish program has been out for a while and we got the chance to review some of their newly released French program.
