Dad spends a night in the man cave: With a vengeance

It was a bonus night in the man cave for dad tonight.  Mom had to attend a birthday party for a child and dad got to put Toddler Mojo to bed.  In our eyes we drew the long straw because that meant that we could rent a man cave movie.

We had wanted to see Predators for a while; it’s a great character that was maligned through a series of alien mash ups and hammy acting by Danny Glover. The first Predator was great.  It’s a classic that is arguably Arnold’s best movie.  Considering that most of his movies stink up a sulfur plant that is saying something.

Daddy Mojo reviews: LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Alphabet Set

We’re a little hesitant to embrace some educational toys.  Call us a little gun shy, but it seems like some manufacturers will slap the alphabet on a toy, call it educational and then watch parent purchase it.  A friend of ours gave us the heads up on LeapFrog’s Fridge Phonics. Continue reading Daddy Mojo reviews: LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Alphabet Set

The Chicken Thief is a children’s book, but we love it

We were in the library the other day when I stumbled across The Chicken Thief by Beatrice Rodriguez.   It’s a funny shaped book that’s more rectangular than most, has a cute bunny on the back cover  and Toddler Mojo was ready to go.  As a toddler tantrum was about to happen I checked out and didn’t pay the book any attention until I got home. Is No Ordinary Family the best show on television?

Stay at home parents cherish time away from their child. We love them dearly, but those moments when we relax and have some adult time, watch television or read a book is a hot commodity. For those stay at home parents who have a part time job or home based business your time during the week is even more valuable.

I don’t, I can’t watch television during the week. I’d love to watch something every night of the week, but then my clients wouldn’t get their work done, my wife wouldn’t receive any conversation and Daddy Mojo wouldn’t get any reviews, commentary (or fart jokes) written. Having said that, I stop what I’m doing on Tuesday nights so I can watch No Ordinary Family on ABC. Continue reading Is No Ordinary Family the best show on television?

Daddy Mojo reviews: the Schwinn AirDriver 1100 floor pump

I came downstairs this morning and my wife asked me how to use the bike pump.  I started laughing and then told her that this bike pump was sent from a dank, isolated place to torture us all. Continue reading Daddy Mojo reviews: the Schwinn AirDriver 1100 floor pump

Parents, runny noses, Boogie Wipes and DISCO!

The many benefits of cold weather are skiing, snowboarding and blue horizons pierced by pine trees that challenge the sky for height.  Alas, if you’re a mom or dad who doesn’t happen to live in Colorado, then cold weather means runny noses, sick children and a yearning to be a parent in one of those mountain states.

A child with a runny nose is a disgusting thing.  Your child with a runny nose is an angel that needs to have their nose wiped before they re-enact the movie Up with mucus bubbles. Continue reading Parents, runny noses, Boogie Wipes and DISCO!

Daddy Mojo asks, “What are the top 5 Jackie Chan movies?”

Jackie Chan is a martial arts super hero.   He has also starred in almost 100 movies, not all of them are good or even worth watching.     When I lived in Japan I had a chance to watch most of his pre 1994 movies.

Now that I’m a parent, my time is more precious and I don’t have the luxury of watching really bad movies.    Continue reading Daddy Mojo asks, “What are the top 5 Jackie Chan movies?”

Daddy Mojo’s favorite free iPad apps for toddlers

Baby Mojo is just 16 months but he loves to interact with the iPad.  We’ve found a couple great apps that help teach him basic words and phonics.  Verbally, we’ll teach him the sounds of the alphabet, but when he sees the letters we’re teaching him the phonetic pronunciation.  All of these apps are free, but some of them may have additional aspects that you pay money for.
