My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2: Giveaway & review

Pass the Windex and enjoy the rom com. When I married my wife I knew that there were a couple of her go-to movies that I would have to tolerate, enjoy or leave the room. My Big Fat Greek Wedding was one of those that I grew to enjoy. I don’t enjoy it as much as her or her friends, but it’s very fun to watch, even on repeated viewings. 14 years later My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is out on video and will provide everything that you liked about the first one, without going back simply for servings of nostalgia.

The BFG, Spielberg’s best (children’s) film since E.T.

In April I attended Disney Social Media Moms at Walt Disney World. One of the things that they gave attendees was a copy of Roald Dahl’s book, The BFG. I had never read it and picked it up one night when I was bored and it absolutely blew me away. It’s a fabulous book for older elementary school kids to read or a great one for parents to read to ages 5 and up. We were provided with the book because the movie version of The BFG is now a big movie directed by Steven Spielberg. The book is a classic and one of the most imaginative ones that we’ve ever read-the film couldn’t possibly stand up to those expectations, could it?

Super Fly: Revenge of the Roach is a young elementary gold mine

I owe Super Fly an apology. Super Fly is the title character in a (now) series of books that are just about perfect for young elementary school readers. The chapters are short, the vocabulary is approachable, the book has drawings on half of the pages and it’s packed with parent approved potty humor. However, when I first saw Super Fly I thought it was too much like Fly Guy.  With the second book from Super Fly out, Revenge of the Roach I realize now that this series is a big step up, from a reading level perspective than our first fly love.

New all age comic books for June 29, 2016

If you live in the United States this is the first week that everyone has off for summer vacation! Congratulations, take the kids out to your local comic book store to see what’s kicking for new comic book day. It’s a great week for new all age comic books including DC Super Hero Girls-a brand new graphic novel that geared for girls 6 and up. Young girls will also like Disney Princesses, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, My Little Pony, Jim Henson’s Shadows of the Dark Crystals and more.

Dark crystal, dc super hero girls, ghostbusters international, future quest, new all age comic books, Doctor Who, Sonic, comic books

It’s not all about girl power-and have said that, those titles are just those that are marketed towards girls or I suspect will enjoy it more than boys.

There are also a couple new Doctor Who comics, Sonic the Hedgehog, a new comic from Clarence and Uncle Scrooge.  One of our favorite all age comic books this week is Pink Panther. This books is funny, great for any age and gives kids a chance to see a classic character in a way that their parents remember. Issue #2 of Pink Panther from American Mythology Productions is out this week and has bright colors and funny gags galore.

The podcast highlights three issues from humor, action and superhero that will be of interest to the fans of all age comic books.  This could include some books that are great for elementary or middle school too. Jim Henson’s Shadows of the Dark Crystals is a YA book that will hook readers 10 and up. It’s set before the time of The Dark Crystal and fans of that movie are probably already drooling and trying to find it online. We also tweet lots about other books, plus some Japanophile news and cat videos, because internet.

Cat’s Pride Fresh & Light Ultimate Care-Vera Bradley bag #giveaway

June is National Adopt-A-Shelter Cat Month. At our heart we’re a cat guy. If the internet had a sense of smell its number one use would be bacon, however, because it doesn’t its go-to calling is cat videos.  Before being a dad I did PR for an animal shelter. During that time I learned lots about human behavior, various social media strategies as it relates to animals, animal control vs. a humane society and lots of other things. As part of Adopt-A-Shelter Cat Month we’re giving away a Vera Bradley Camocat Tote courtesy of Oil-Dri Corporation of America.

Movies and shows that are 100% Americana on Netflix #StreamTeam

We’re part of the #StreamTeam and were compensated for this post. All thoughts are our own. Much in the same way that Trollhunter is distinctly Norwegian, Amelie is French and IP Man is Chinese there are countless movies on Netflix that are utterly American. This is a list of movies or shows that are pure Americana. They might not be classic, but they’ve got a style, star or personality that, for better or worse, could only be from the U.S.A.  Enjoy the 4th of July and revel in this list of Americana entertainment. Did we miss anything? Is your favorite here?

Independence Day: Resurgence review

20 years between sequels is a curse or a blessing. It happens because there wasn’t enough interest for a sequel or it’s happening just for nostalgia.  Independence Day:   Resurgence is a happy mix between the two and then some. It’s a worthy successor to what kicked off the expectations of a summer movie blockbuster in 1996.

Amazing Water, fun, palatable intro to classical music for all ages

Classical music makes you smart. I don’t know if that’s true, but that’s the go-to programming for people once they find out that they’re going to be parents. We got one of those classical music or baby CD’s when our first was born, as you probably did too-or gave one as a baby shower gift. Amazing Water serves that purpose and then some for older kids who genuinely want to learn about classical music, its history and the people who make it.

Amazing Water, classical music, listen, book, instrument,
