Daddy Mojo’s video, book and music gift guide

During this time of year parents might miss some hidden gems or low hanging fruit when it comes to gifts.  Enter the Daddy Mojo Gift Guide.  It has a couple gifts that are obvious and awesome, some things that flew just under the radar and some indie stuff that your kids will absolutely love.  In each description we’ll list what ages it is appropriate for and just a wee bit about why it’ll make whoever receives it a happy kid, regardless of their age.   It’s broken down into videos, books and music.  There are also lots of toys and tech, but that’ll be in another post.

A 5 year old muses about fire breathing dragons in Big Hero 6

We love our movies.  Because we have younger children it’s rarer for them to get to the theaters and actually see good movies.  Granted, they’ll go to the movie theater maybe a dozen times a year, but rare is the instance where we enjoy the movie as much as they do.  Big Hero 6 is the best movie that fits that category that we’ve seen this year.  Here’s a video reaction from our somewhat camera shy son about Big Hero 6.

It’s OK to shop on Thanksgiving Day, really

We are 100% on board with getting great deals on things that we need.   We also purchase our gifts far in advance.  Christmas shopping was 90% completed in January and we’ll purchase gift for the next year this year on Black Friday.  We also worked retail or other jobs that always required us to work on holidays.  This isn’t some “I walked uphill both ways to school” post, rather it’s just a nice note to those who want to shame people into thinking the way that they think.

Can parents really not have a favorite son?

When I was in school I had a friend whose father preferred his sister. The reason was that the father expected his daughter to cheer and the son to play football. Unfortunately for the son, he was just over 5ft tall. My friend could never get over the fact that he wasn’t acceptable to his father simply because of his height.

Two children, how can you really have a favorite son

The John Deere Gear Force Harvest Action Combine

We received the toy for review purposes, all thought are ours. To say that our oldest boy loves farms is an understatement.  When he was 2 he got his first play farm.  When he was 3 he had three different farms and a metal farm with magnet figures.  He’s 5 now, has farm puzzles, albeit with the rogue dinosaur on them and vehicles of all sort.  The John Deere Gear Force Harvest Action Combine will be the next piece of his farm domination.

By Grabthar’s Hammer, Galaxy Quest has aged well #StreamTeam

We’re part of the #StreamTeam for Netflix and were compensated for this post.  All thoughts are our own and this film really is awesome yo. With a happy grin when I checked out the ‘Recently Added’ movies on Netflix to see that Galaxy Quest was put up.  It’s been 14 years since I saw it last, remembered how much I loved it and wanted to see how it held up in the first decade of the new millennium.  Both of our children are too young to appreciate the film so I planted myself on the sofa and was relieved to find out that Galaxy Quest hasn’t aged too much.  If you haven’t seen Galaxy Quest here are 5 simple reasons why it’s one of the best comedies or science fiction movies on Netflix now.
