Rare are scary films that are good. More often than not it’s just violence, creative (sick) ways to murder and most recently torture porn. The “Saw” type movies that were popular in the mid 00’s weren’t really scary, just had moments of tension. The “found footage” movies that were trendy after that weren’t scary either, just mildly surprising. The Conjuring is a throwback movie that is genuinely scary-without being bloody, has strong characters and succeeds in going past the genre and actually being a great film. Family travel along the Georgia coast: short cuts, a petting zoo & The Wiregrass Trail
The Georgia coast has some really pretty beaches. While Hilton Head is technically in South Carolina, you’re probably driving there via I-16 and Savannah. I-16 is the interstate road that you get from Macon/I-75. About two hours outside of Savannah look for exit 98. If you’re headed to the South Georgia coast area of Jeckyll Island/St. Simmons Island or north to Savannah/Hilton Head; exit 98 can save you time or provide a needed break for families with kids. From its title, Floating Bunnyhead could be thought of as a comic book that’s OK for young readers. Think Aqua Teen Hunger Force and you get an idea of the humor and subject matter of Floating Bunnyhead. This comic book is not appropriate for young readers, but it is fabulous, creative, weird fun that teens and up will enjoy. Shimmer & Splash: a fishy look at the sea life that children will like
We just got back from a visit to the beach. There were six children on the trip between ages 1 to 12. If your child is between 6 to 12 and have questions about sea life Shimmer & Splash is a good jumping off point. Pacific Rim: quality film plus an old soul with monsters & robots
Pacific Rim is a movie that I didn’t want to like. “Hurry up and make HellBoy 3 Gulliermo Del Toro, why are you messing around with Pacific Rim?”, my inner fanboy said a couple years ago. Now that I’ve seen Pacific Rim I’m eating my words to an extent because it is great fun, still has aspects of what makes all of Del Toro’s movies great, except with a much bigger budget.
