Daddy Mojo’s money saving tip: Parenting pet care co-op

I like to save money.  You probably do too.  Pets can really round out a family.  The lessons that cats and dogs can teach our children add up to help shape them into young adults who don’t run and hide at the sight of a pet.    I met an adult one time who was genuinely scared of cats, shaking, crying, the whole nine yards, THAT woman needed a pet growing up. The Yank on the billboard-How not to break into radio

One Date Night recently at the Mojo house we decided to rent Pirate Radio.  That movie had been in our list to see because I was familiar with the story and have a relationship to its history.  Before I was a stay at home dad I traveled around a bit.  During one of those traveling stints I was working at The Peacock in Nottingham, England

One night when I was working these business men came over from the BBC, which was located across the street.  After a bit of chatting to them I said that I did some radio and was traveling.  They mentioned that a friend of theirs was in Italy running a radio station and might need some help. Travelling with a toddler

Our first trip as a family was to the beach, with an infant.  Nine months later we made the same trip with a toddler.  The second trip was infinitely more enjoyable while we were there, but, was a crying mess going and coming.

The trip down there with a toddler was much worse than coming back and the next trip should be even easier, now that we’ve learned a couple things.  Continue reading Travelling with a toddler

Eating with a toddler-Dining with Dad

I know we’re feeding Baby Mojo because he’s gaining weight, yet it always seems like most of the food gets on his lap or bib, and then down on the floor where the dogs camp out for table scraps.   During lunch and dinner, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Victoria Stillwell enter and scold me for allowing such slovenly dog behavior to occur.

We’re thankful that Baby Mojo has stopped the sonic assault when he eats.  Now he’s just entered a slightly picky stage of eating.  As an almost 11 month old toddler he loves anything that he can pick up to eat.  Unfortunately, he’s now trying to eat anything that he can pick up. Danger is relative to the size of the person

I’m fortunate enough to be a stay at home dad so during the week I get to watch Baby Mojo crawl over obstacles, try to eat the cats’ tail and avoid the sharp angles in the house.    As an almost ten month old toddler he’s navigating the house and keeping an eye out for the closets where we’ll eventually hide his Christmas presents.  Continue reading Danger is relative to the size of the person

Sonic Youth of my loins

Mom and I are excited because Baby Mojo has found his voice.

Unfortunately that is not a singing metaphor; rather our eight month old has discovered that he can talk.  I’m all for talking;  don’t get me wrong, but an eight month old talks at one volume:  a very loud and punishing auditory dagger that would have Spinal Tap dialing it down from 11.

The screaming from our son usually happens when he’s being fed solid foods.  The red in his face, packaged full of baby rage is all treble, no bass; which seems to make the shrieks hurt that much more.

Being a new stay at home dad I know that more challenging situations will arise.  To deal me with the sonic assault coming from our son’s pie hole I’m faced with a couple options. Continue reading Sonic Youth of my loins

The 40 million year old paper weight-Sand dollars in the Sahara

Mothers and wives sometimes don’t see the value in what guys or growing boys have.  Sometimes it’s a collection, a piece of clothing or a thing that looks like an old rock. For me it started with a concert tee for Oingo Boingo, who I had seen in concert at an outdoor festival.  That was early 80s new wave at its best, even today Boingo’s music sounds great thanks in part to Danny Elfman and their tight rhythm.  Their frantic, multi layered music captured the sensibilities of a hyperactive teenage boy perfectly.
