Christmas Trade is a psuedo-seasonal lump of coal

Imagine a Christmas version of Big, then take away any of the wit and charm, dumb down the dialogue a little more and you’ve got an idea of Christmas Trade. It stars William Baldwin as a recently widowed dad to a young teen boy, played by Michael Campion. Denise Richards is Chloe, Baldwin’s girlfriend who hasn’t been introduced to Campion yet.

Win a 6 month membership to Netflix #BPopEvents

Three years ago we cut the cord and have been streaming our entertainment ever since. It started out as a means to save money. However, as time went on we discovered that we were watching better quality television (and movies) in less time. Netflix is where the kids and I spend most of our TV time. There is always something on that they want to watch. We create profiles so that the kids can only be tempted by the age appropriate programming. My wife and I can then go into our profiles and watch the things that we want to.

‘Tis the Season For Love succeeds despite its translucence

Or perhaps it succeeds in spite of its translucence. Most Christmas movies have an element of cheese and transparency. They’re not going to have a Crying Game type surprise, the girl will usually find love and the family in need will get that job, present for their child or discover the true meaning of Christmas. ‘Tis the Season For Love is a great example of a by the numbers holiday film with just enough smaltz in all the right places to make for enjoyable viewing.

New all age comics for Wednesday, December 9, 2015

Happy new comic book day! It happens every Wednesday at your local comic book store when they receive the new ones. While the new books that are OK for young readers varies from week to week, there are at least a dozen and a half every week. This week in all age comics brings a couple great graphic novels, the start of a potentially cool mini-series for readers 10 and up, Guardians, Mickey and TMNT.

If your child is into fantasy then they’ll want to check out Wakfu, #2 of an 8 issue mini-series comes out this week. It’s based on the popular video and card games that is already really popular with kids 9 and up.  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Amazing Adventures and Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy, two titles for the action comic set are great too.

Pie Face Game, a fun testament to truth in advertising

You’ve probably seen one of the Pie Face Game videos on YouTube. The first one we saw was called ‘World’s Coolest Granddad’ or something like that. It featured a child with his grandfather playing the game. The child was laughing hysterically, as were all of the people in the room. It was a genuine, simple homemade video that let millions of people see the family have fun, as well as, asking what the heck is that game. All of the kids played Pie Face Game recently; they laughed hysterically, made a mess and tried desperately to convince, mom, dad or any of the grands to get in with them.

Kind spotting, #Kindawesome and the power of simple deeds

Hey there, I partnered with Life of Dad and KIND for this promotion.  “Mommy, why are we poor”, she said as she came home from school. This family was not poor; they’re a nice upper middle class that live just down the road from us. The 9 year old daughter’s friends however, must have had a more affluent lifestyle. My wife and I share this story between us often as a barometer that we need to keep our children humble and have them realize that people have a wide variety of needs, wants and possessions.   KIND Snacks is touching on this topic for us now by reminding people how rewarding it is do simple things that are nice. They’ve also created a site, how kind of you, that celebrates random acts of kindness.

Guitar Hero Live giveaway as part of #BPopEvents

Christmas and the holidays are super close and we’re giving away one of the most popular video games, Guitar Hero Live. What game system do you have? It doesn’t matter. How good of an axe grinder are you? Blaze a trail down butcher city, you can practice. We reviewed the game and (spoiler alert), it’s great. It’s also very challenging, but can be played on any one of three levels to match your guitar skills.
We’re doing this as part of #BPopEvents. It’s a group of cool bloggers who band (no pun intended) together every three months to giveaway buckets of stuff from the companies that work with us.

Dig along with #BPopEvents to see what they’re giving away. I’ve seen a Star Wars game grab bag, purses worth $240, children’s shoes and concert tickets all during the first day-and it keeps going for three days. Most of the giveaways are open for two weeks, but they’ll vary according to each blogger.

a Rafflecopter giveaway
This one though is for the gamer and Guitar Hero Live is great fun for them. It does not matter what gaming system you have. XBOX One, PS 4, Wii, XBOX 360 or PS 3-all the winner will have to do is tell us what gaming system they have and we’ll pass it on. One of the cool things about Guitar Hero Live is that new music is always being loaded to the GHTV aspect of the game. Just today Shake Me by Cinderella, Rush-Fly By Night and music by Iggy Pop, R.E.M., Audioslave, Neon Trees and Judas Priest were added, just to name a few. The game is rated T due to some of the lyrics that players might encounter and is produced by Freestylegame.com.
