The Boy Who Became A Dragon, A Bruce Lee Story review

Early in my marriage my wife and I set a $25 limit on gifts. The first gift that she gave me under the price restrictions at that time was a Bruce Lee DVD set. That was 13 years ago and I still have the DVDs, plus I’m still married. I mention that to drive home the point that I am a Bruce Lee fan. His talent was stunning and the legacy that he had and left behind is amazing and tragic. The Boy Who Became A Dragon, A Bruce Lee Story by Jim Di Bartolo is a graphic novel that (shockingly…) I expected to enjoy. Once I was finished the book I realized that I enjoyed it for entirely different reasons than I thought that I would.

We loved this graphic novel, but not for the reasons we would’ve thought

Win a family 4-pack of tickets to The Harlem Globetrotters in Duluth

Listen to the upbeat whistling music when the Harlem Globetrotters take the court. If you weren’t smiling about what the upcoming show, remembering a show or simply watching highlights from one of their shows you will now be in a great mood. They’re playing well into their ninth decade and are still as entertaining as they were when I saw them a couple decades ago. The Harlem Globetrotters will be playing in Duluth at Infinite Energy Arena on January 18 for two shows that day and we’re giving away a family 4-pack of tickets to see the show at 2:00.

It is a basketball, but it’s arguably more of a show. It’s not guaranteed that the Harlem Globetrotters are going to win, but the odds are not in the Washington General’s favor. The antics of the Harlem Globetrotters are infamous and have been put on display for more than 148 million fans in 123 different countries. They’ve been ambassadors for a country and a sport, they’re responsible for the massive popularity of the NBA and are one of the most family-friendly outings that you’ll enjoy with kids of any age.

This family 4-pack of tickets to The Harlem Globetrotters is for the game on January 18 at 2:00, Infinite Energy Arena. To enter just leave a comment in this post or RT this:

In addition to the games at the Infinite Energy Arena on January 18, The Harlem Globetrotters will also have two games on Sunday, January 19 at State Farm Arena.

KIBO Robot Kits are the STEAM skill toy you wish you had as a child

It would be deceiving to describe the KIBO Robot Kit as easy. Initially I compared it to the literary equivalent of a board book in that it’s geared towards younger users. KIBO Robot Kits are geared to a similar age as their book brethren, except their goal is much more in the STEAM camp. We’ve played with numerous “kid coding” toys and KIBO Robot Kits are easily the best-and most immersive for what they’re trying to accomplish. It is incredibly simple to use, has almost no learning curve and can challenge the older children for whom the robot is intended for.

If your 4YO can scan an item at the grocery store they can learn coding with KIBO

How to Hide a Lion at Christmas, pretend seasonal play for 4 and up

How to Hide a Lion at Christmas is logical. The title is illogical, but considering how well-and how adept Iris is at hiding him and many adventures they’re had, it makes sense. Iris is a four year-old girl who has been figuring out ways to hide her lion for several years. She’s hidden her lion at school, from grandma and others. This book, and the others by author Helen Stephens; succeed due to the book’s perspective, its timeless/charming art and the fact that everyone has pretended to hide something from someone when they were that age.

Timeless and modern, try to hide a lion at christmas will you……

All age comic books for January 1

Happy new comic book day for the first Wednesday of the year! Yeah, it’s a day late, but as new comic book day fell on Christmas Day and then on New Year’s Day it means that the number of all age comic books is lower than normal weeks. There are still some great ones to choose from, like Vault of Heroes Hulk from IDW Publishing which will be great for kids in elementary school who want some superhero reading. Sonic the Hedgehog #26 is out this week too and this monthly comic book is a go-to comic for elementary schools. They love this comic and after looking at it for a moment you’ll see why.

This week in all age comic books has Sonic, Supes, Spider-Man, Ducktales and more

How to go shrimp fishing in Hilton Head Island

The kids wanted to see sea life. A ‘sea cruise’ for me sounds kind of boring. What to do in Hilton Head when the family want to spend a couple hours on the water, perhaps see some sea life and maybe, just maybe catch a couple pounds of fresh shrimp? It was an unexpected answer for us that turned out to be one of the more memorable times during our vacation. The Tammy Jane operates its shrimping expeditions from May through mid-January each year and combined something for everyone in our group.

Our trip on the Tammy Jane Shrimp Trawler was entertaining and provided dinner

Downton Abbey The Motion Picture, the Crawley clan film works well

Now a major motion picture, that phrase used to be the marketing stuff of legend. The book that you read is now a movie! You and your friends can be the first to say that the book was better and then clamor for more books that can be made into sequels. When some of the toys, I’m looking at you Transformers, started to get into the game it did water down the reputation a bit. When video games were made into movies it was a tipping point in the universe where up was down. Thankfully that also signaled a bit of a change. It said, without actually saying it, that if the fans are there, then a movie could be made of a property that was once on the small screen. That’s where Downton Abbey, The Motion Picture succeeds as a fan’s film and one that’s enjoyable for people who enjoy cinema.
