Lion Needs A Haircut, a great dads and kids story

Kids and haircuts go together like love and marriage. Now tweak the words a bit, put a Rat Pack crooner behind the singing and you’ve got the theme to Married With Children. Lion Needs A Haircut by author/illustrator Hyewon Yum is an illustrated book that looks at a father and son who have more than one thing in common. The story is one that parents to any child who is close to four years old will understand very well.

Take It Away, Tommy! is smart, cat humor with a side of puns

Georgia Dunn gets cats. She also gets people and the qualities that make us laugh at the anthropomorphic things cats will do. Take It Away, Tommy! is the fourth book in the Breaking Cat News Adventure series of books that shows people what our cats are probably thinking if their lives are akin to a news themed version of The Truman Show.

Diary of a 5th Grade Outlaw: The Friend Thief nails number 2

Epic! Originals is a book imprint line within Andrews McMeel Publishing. This imprint of books is worth mentioning because it nails to the floor how elementary aged kids think. Some of their books skew younger than Diary of a 5th Grade Outlaw. This series of books by Gina Loveless with illustrations by Andrea Bell has its second release, The Friend Thief out now and pull a bit of an Empire Strikes Back on its readers.

elementary readers who want to level up will love this series

The Boreal Forest is a perfect mid-grade biome book

In theory, I know where the Boreal Forest is. For us it’s similar to The Isle of Man; both of which are such perfectly named places that they’d only exist in some middle earth novel or on the outskirts of my geography knowledge. In this case, The Boreal Forest, A Year in the World’s Largest Land Biome is a children’s illustrated book that effortlessly blends art and entertainment into a book that nature kids will relish and casual kidlit readers will enjoy.

The illustrated book as educational tool is a great thing

All age comic books for June 24

It appears that the comic book deliveries are back on course, with a few changes. We spoke to our local comic book store and they said that the ones from DC Comics will be arriving on Tuesday. All of the other books and graphic novels will be arriving on Wednesday. Of course, check with your local comic book store to confirm their schedule, as well, as opening hours during these times.

Having said all of that, this is an excellent week for all age comic books and graphic novels. It’s obvious that there were many graphic novels that were delayed and are now hitting shelves at the same time. Comic book publishers tried to avoid that from happening with success, even though it meant no product coming out for two months.

For elementary aged readers they have Pizza and Taco: Who’s The Best?. There are also a couple of Disney graphic novels and Star Wars Adventures, which will be great for ages 6 and up.

Middle, high school readers and up who are looking for something left of center should check out Transformers and The Terminator mini-series.

Check out the entire list, because there are multiple all age comic books for readers 6 and up. Call ahead to your local shop to confirm the delivery date.

The all age comic books and Graphic novels are back to full volume

Camp Warner Bros. is in effect through mid August

97 out of 100 summer camps have been cancelled. To compensate for that some brands have really stepped up to give parents a break in certain areas. Camp Warner Bros. starts this week. In addition to introducing you and your family to potentially new entertainment they’ll have weekly activities that were created around certain releases.

This week has Super Hero Training, which is something any parent can relate to and might need help with. Granted, part of that could be a distraction and parents know that an entertaining distraction is far different than just a diversion for children. LEGO DC: Shazam! Magic and Monsters is celebrating its release and is certain to entertain LEGO, DC or audiences aged 5 and up that want to laugh and have fun.

For example, here’s the Batman Workout that kids will certainly get a laugh out of. It’s geared towards those young children who’ll be able to find Batman or who want to fight crime in their backyard.

Here’s the schedule for Camp Warner Bros. this summer. There’s something for any camper, so pay loose attention.

Week 1: Super Hero Training, LEGO DC: Shazam! Magic and Monsters

Week2: DIY Crystal Gems, Steven Universe: The Movie

Week 3: Gummy Bear Slime, We Bare Bears: The Movie

Week 4: Cooking & Coloring, Scoody-Doo and the WrestleMania Mystery

Week 5: Character Bank, Teen Titan’s Go! Vs. Teen Titans

Week 6: Summer Goals, Alex and Me

Week 7: Drive in Movie, The Fast and the Furry

Week 8: Talent Show, Family Matters: Season 1

LEGO DC: Shazam! Magic and Monsters is available now for those growing superheroes who need great entertainment.

Jorvik Calling, a Star Riders joint for equine adventure girls

Is your StarFam calling out to you? If you don’t have a girl aged 8-17 then “StarFam” Star Stable or Jorvik could be a foreign language. It was for us, and then I dug into it and found out that the game has been massively popular since 2012 as a safe, online gaming opportunity for girls that weaves in horses, adventure and magical elements. In short, it’s a gaming juggernaut where 98% of its players are girls who now have the opportunity to read about the four friends and the magical realm of Jorvik.

Starfam rejoice, the books are finally here

The Queen Bee and Me happily flies to its own beat

What’s the only currency that’s priceless one year and worthless the next? If you guessed the Venezuelan Bolivar you’re wrong. It’s popularity. To some teens popularity is the only thing that matters one year, until they get to the next year and realize that it’s all a John Hughes movie. The Queen Bee and Me by Gillian McDunn is a book that upper elementary through lower high school readers will take to like a Carpenter bee to the wood on my back porch.

Great, mGLIT on friendship, yourself and bees
