Someone Farted. Someone Farted by Bruce Eric Kaplan is the book that might divide you as a parent. You want your child to read, but a part of you wants them to read books about feelings or solving elementary school problems. If the later term describes you then Someone Farted is in no way the book that you’re looking for. With any luck Gandhi Plays, the story about a 6-year old Mahatma Gandhi on the playground at an elementary school will be published next month for you.

For those other parents, or those children who just want to read, laugh and have something that relates to their family, Someone Farted is for you. You’ll never guess what Someone Farted is about-or maybe the title is too obvious and that’s the reason this book interests you.

All age comic books for August 29

It’s almost new comic book day and the new all age comic books and graphic novels have a lot to offer young readers. Over in the podcast we’ll take a deeper look at some great graphic novels like Ozy and Millie, The Baby-Sitters Club and more, plus some cool comic books like Star Wars and three neat offerings from DC Comics. For now though, here are three all age comic books that will entertain kids of all sort who are aged 6 and up. What all age comic books are you reading this week? Pink Panther Surfside Special

If you’re a fan, a real fan of certain characters these season issues are a must-own. Lumberjanes and Simpsons Comics also have some great summer or holiday themed issues. Pink Panther Surfside Special is all about big Pink at the beach. There are two new tales, one with MisterJaw and the other with the Little Man. Fans of the recent cartoons, as well as kids who like silly, slapstick fun will really enjoy this one-shot comic book. Pink Panther Surfside Special from American Mythology Productions is $3.99 and appropriate for ages 6 and up.

Ms. Marvel #33

Kamala, that’s Ms. Marvel if you’re a baddie. Ms. Marvel is a great comic book for kids in fifth grade and up. There is a girl at our bus stop that is in fifth grade and she loves Ms. Marvel. The technical rating on Ms. Marvel from Marvel Comics is Teen, but realistically there’s nothing in this comic book that’s offensive or inappropriate for 11 year-olds. Ms. Marvel is a teen super hero who battles villains, while dealing with being a teen. This is fun, action based stuff, with a light heart-most of the time.

Star Wars A New Hope graphic novel

Star Wars is malleable. You can craft the characters and story for better or worse, as well as skew their ages younger or older. From a fan’s perspective, that’s the blessing and curse of the franchise. On the blessing side of things is Star Wars, A New Hope graphic novel. This A New Hope in a graphic novel, that’s presented for young readers. Ages 6 and up that want age appropriate action, with science-fiction fun need to read this. It’s the origin story of a great couple of movies, with characters that will be around forever. The characters are drawn in a way that will appeal to young readers, in a realistic body image, as opposed to the New Hope graphic novel where Luke looked like a body builder. This is classic stuff that’s priced at $9.99, an affordable point for gifts or young library building.

Monster Boogie moves to a book beat for ages 2-6

Laurie Berkner is a rock star in the world of children. She’s the most well known kindie artist ever and to millions of parents all over the world that’s saying something. Her songs have helped countless kids get their sillies out, learn about feelings and allowed sing-alongs in the car to continue for much longer than they otherwise would have. Monster Boogie is her third foray into books and it’s certain to be a welcome, home run of a book for some in the audience.

Operation Finale, opening in theaters on Wednesday August 29

We were provided tickets to see the film-all thoughts are our own. I’m a history buff. I’m also a movie guy. I’m always optimistic when a film comes out that is truly based on actual historic events comes out. I want it to be good, but too often my hopes are dashed by one thing or another. Operation Finale opens in movie theaters on August 29. It’s the true story of the hunt for Adolf Eichmann after WWII.

The Night Knights is a great good-nite book

There are some children’s books that extend beyond the ages that they’ve meant for. In theory they have a younger skewing interest level, but there is just something about them makes them work for a couple years older, or longer than you think they will. The Night Knights by Gideon Sterer with illustrations by Cory Godbey is that kind of book.

All age comic books for August 22

It’s new comic book day (#NCBD on social media) and what new all age comic books are you reading? If you want to share them on social just tag them with #DaddyMojo too so we can casually look over your shoulder. Over in the podcast we’ll take a deeper look at Peanuts, The Beatles Yellow Submarine, a new graphic novel by Science Comics, two Star Wars books and more. For now though here are three great comic books that will interest readers as young as 5 years old.

Lumberjanes #53

Lumberjanes is one of the go-to all age comic books each month. It’s about a group of girls (The Lumberjanes) as they have fun at summer camp. Mix in some age appropriate monsters, science-fiction, adventure, friendship and more and every issue of this comic book is fabulous. It might appeal to girls more than boys, but that’s simply due to the main characters. As a quality vehicle, this is one of the best comic books for any audience, regardless of who is reading it or how old they are.

Pink Panther Presents the Ant and the Aardvark #1

Our 8 year old loves this series of comic books from American Mythology Productions. It started with The Pink Panther, but their ancillary friends and cartoon mates from back in the day have been getting in on the new audiences too. Ant and the Aardvark is a one-shot issue that will make kids as young at 5 laugh and remind parents about a very funny cartoon. Its humor is not 100% dry, but it’s dryish in the way that Mr. Bean is, except in an ant and aardvark way.

Marvel Super Hero Adventures Inferno, #1

This is all age super hero and its best. Marvel Super Hero Adventures doesn’t dumb down the super heroes. Nor does it give them the Muppet Baby treatment, instead it simply tells action based tales that kids as young at 5 can look at. In this issue Inferno is visiting Spider-Man and Venom is around the corner ready to mess things up in the city. Of course those younger ages won’t be able to read it themselves, but they’ll certainly love the artwork. Ages 7 and up should be able to read the comic book without any assistance from older folks.
