Life lessons from the doughnut isle at Publix

I’ve learned that brothers manipulate each other like they are in sales.  If one of them wants something all they have to do is feign not being interested in it and the other one will back off.  This rule holds true unless it’s something that has an attraction so undeniably strong that neither one can fake it.  Enter the doughnuts.  Sometimes I let the kids get a bag of powdered doughnuts.  It was on one such occasion that I was reminded of some life lessons that parents might forget.

Live reading of Tuesday Tucks Me In at The Children’s Museum of Atlanta on 9/19, 11 AM

Before being a dad I worked in the humane industry.  I did PR, social media and various aspects of management for a large animal shelter.  During my time there I learned about the value and work of a service dog, as well as, the healing powers that animals provide.   On Friday, September 19 at 11 AM, Captain Luis Carlos Montalvan and his service dog Tuesday will be at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta to read their New York Times bestselling book, Tuesday Tucks Me In.

Dad Spends a Night in the Mancave: The Protector 2 review

Here at Daddy Mojo we get some unsolicited products that we don’t review.  We don’t review them because it would take time and if they’re not paying then it’s a waste of my time.  We’ll pass them a note, saying it’s not a good fit or have some improvements they could make to the product. With our wife out of town we settled in for a movie.  The reviews on The Protector 2 weren’t kind, but it’s Tony Jaa, it can’t be that bad.  This review of The Protector 2 is more of a warning that a review.  Consider yourself warned. The International Photography Contest for Kids 2014 is open

I take lots of photos for work.  Some of them are great and some of them are simply stock images for moods or seasons that I need.  Our almost 5 year old is getting a child’s camera for his birthday (don’t tell him!) and he isn’t allowed to take photos with ours yet.  However, in honor of the International Photography Contest for Kids by National Geographic Kids we let him take a couple shots.

Pee-Wee’s Playhouse: the pinnacle of children’s live action programming

As summer turns to fall and the kids go back to school I’m thinking about the great things we did the past three months.  During our summer vacation we spent some time with the family and a handful of 7-13 year olds.  Because not every day was sunny, they had to watch television and it was at this time that I was reminded of how superior Pee-Wee’s Playhouse was to every children’s live action show ever made.

Preschool books: Mini Myths Be Patient Pandora and Play Nice Hercules

At the risk of an overused pun, Greek mythology is well, Greek to me.  I know somewhere there’s a pillar of salt, a hydra, Hercules and Aquaman is in there somewhere, I think.  Mini Myths is a new board book series of the classic Greek myths re-imagined as modern stories for toddlers.  The words on these preschool books are big, the concepts are simple and the art will draw in young readers aged 1-4.

Figure it out I’m on the toilet

I said with all the guttural force I could muster.  My pants were around my ankles and I had just sat down on the toilet before running errands with a three and five year old. They were in the other room playing for a moment so I figured I had two minutes to spare.  The phone rings.   I get up, pants around my ankles to see who it is and I don’t recognize the phone number, so of course I answer it.
