The other day I read this great article in The Daily Mail. It was written by a health professional at a weight management center, or centre as he would write. This morning I was greeted with the obvious bait link of a headline, “Hot Mom on Facebook Defends Herself”. That story was not what I thought it would be, but it was also a great read about motivation, exercise and parenting. I simply combined the two stories in my head to come up with the train wreck of a headline: In Defense of a hot mom on Facebook and fat children in England.

Kids have it lucky nowadays. Their toys are smarter than mine were and their holidays just seem bigger, witness Halloween. In our neighborhood most of the neighbors have at least one Halloween decoration in the yard and the kids know what they’re dressing up as weeks before the big night. Sometimes movie reviews get in the way of a movie being good. That was almost the case for Pacific Rim, which came out this summer. We loved the movie when it came out and it’s so much better than you might have heard. It’s a big, loud, fun, ride with monsters, robots and the detail that you’ve come to enjoy (and expect) from a Gulliermo del Toro movie. I gave our 4 YO son an ‘all ages’ comic the other day. While the characters were appropriate for any age, they used phrases like “shut up”, “stupid” or “idiot”. Kudos to my wife for catching that. What a relief Llyod and The Bear is, it truly is an all ages comic book that is funny, sharply drawn and creative- everything you’re looking for in a comic book that is OK for young children.
