The Night Before Christmas: A Brick Story, studly Santa

Take two things that are wildly popular with children. The Night Before Christmas and LEGO. One is a classic story about Santa Claus delivering presents, while the other is a brick based toy that generations of children have loved playing with. I’m kicking myself for not thinking of this first. The Night Before Christmas: A Brick Story is simply a LEGO retelling of that classic tale and our children are going bonkers for it.

New all age comics for December 2, 2015

December is here and I thought that the all age comics would slow down. Alas, it’s one of the busiest weeks in a while with lots of new graphic novels, one mini-series coming to an end, a classic title coming back and a brand new one with superb lineage.

Spidey is back! The classic series from the 70’s is back at Marvel. This time Spidey is a teen, a true teen in high school trying to manage girls, peer pressure and the side effects from a radioactive spider bite. There are two trade paperbacks featuring Batman ’66, one for Ghostbusters Get Real, My Little Pony Friends Forever, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.

Simpsons Illustrated #20 and Regular Show #30 come out this week. If you’re looking for a go-to basics in TV to comic book medium you should dig into either of those.

New all age comics for December 2, 2015, Spidey, Batman 66, Jim Henson's Storyteller Dragons, Skylanders

#1 of Jim Henson’s Storyteller Dragons comes out this week too. The previous Storyteller mini-series told short stories about witches from all over the world. The art in that series was fabulous and it told a story that could be enjoyed by upper middle schoolers and above. This latest series focuses on various dragon stories. Just look at the cover to fall in love and find your new favorite comic.

The music in the podcast is Jahzzar, it’s instrumental rock, but he plays all manner of world stuff too. You can dig into all of his stuff at Free Music Archive.  The links will take you to TFAW where you’ll save up to 20% on anything through the links.

eeBoo has those creative and quirky toys that you can never find

Whenever we vacation in a new city I always visit their toy and book stores. That way I can see what brands or toys are popular in other parts of the country, as well as get introduced to some possible local authors. The toys that you see in those stores have that look. They look individualized, special and like they were made just for your child. Many of those toys also won the Best Toy Award from the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio. eeBoo is a site that contacted us recently and has oodles of toys and activities that fit that bill. Through December 12 they’re also have 20% off if you use code dadddymojo20 when you check out.

The concert action in Guitar Hero Live is everything you axe’d for

We received a copy of the game for review purposes. I play guitar. I play guitar in my car. Sometimes I also casually strum at my desk in-between thoughts or cat videos. For air guitar or real musicians anywhere Guitar Hero Live is for you.  It’s all guitar. You axe demons; Satriani wannabes and alt-rock legends get your groove on or head to the car, because this is as close to playing in front of festival crowds as most of us will get. In my case, that’s a good thing. After two hours of playing it skills improved, but not to the extent where the crowd or my band mates approved of what I was playing.

Turkey TV and movies that are worth your time on Netflix

Hey, we’re part of the StreamTeam from Netflix and were compensated for this post. Having said that, we love movies and it shows. Turkey entertainment can take a variety of forms.  They’re the films that you expect to be slightly bad, but perform better than you expect. Are they good because they’re bad or so bad that they’re good? It could be the lightweight fare and exceeds or the potential trash you watch that all but puts glue to the sofa cushions with a two hour time lock. A quick tour of Netflix lent us these television and movie options that sure didn’t win any awards, but locked down a solid chunk of entertainment time in our house.

The New All Age Comic Books for Wednesday, November 25, 2015

This is a really neat week for all age comic books. There are lots of books coming out, many new titles and something for everyone. There’s a new Peanuts book, Peanuts Snoopy Special #1 is all Snoopy in all new adventures. Sesame Street, Chakra The Invincible, Wilds End Enemy Within #3, Bart Simpson #99 and lots of other titles that are ‘regulars’ come out.

A brand new series is Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur from Marvel. It sounds a lot like Terrible Lizard, which we loved, but are skeptical as to how much it looks like it. Regardless, we’ll give it a look over because, dinosaurs.

There are also oodles of new Star Wars accessories. Your R2 kitchen storage set is no longer a dream, you can boil your egg in the shape of C-3PO and lots of other ways to make the holidays more fun.

Re: the links. They’ll take you to TFAW where you’ll save up to 20% on your orders. They’re also having an online only Black Friday sale. Spend over $45 and you’ll see big savings happen. Now go have the internet hamsters work overtime.

Ice Sculpture Christmas, an above par seasonal movie

My wife rope a doped me. We sat down to watch a Christmas movie. It’s one of those movies that you are certain how they end; it’s just a matter of how cheesy, well made and put together it is at the end. I am all for cheesy movies. However, Christmas cheese is its own variety, it’s one that my wife specializes in and we’ll be watching movies like this for the next month. File under: my wife really loves them so we’ll be watching them too. This month we’ll be watching as many potentially smaltzy Christmas holiday movies so that you don’t have to, unless you want to. However, in the case of Ice Sculpture Christmas, it’s a really good film that flies above most of the Christmas fare you’ll see on television or video.

Spot It! Miles From Tomorrowland, learning made fun

Is it better to refer to Spot It! as learning made fun or fun made learning? It is a fun card game that kids of varying ages will enjoy and have fun with, but they’ll also learn something from it. We were provided with Spot It! Miles From Tomorrowland, Spot It! Basic French and Spot It! Basic Spanish for the kids to try out. Each deck of cards comes in a tin can with round cards that have letters, pictures, words or numbers on them. Any two cards will have one pair of things that are an exact match. It sounds simple and to an extent it is, but it’s also great practice for young minds who are learning early concepts.
